⛹️‍♂️ Elijah Gertrude - Official Thread

Early in the season I thoughf Rohde looked good on 1 dribble pull ups. Doesnt seem to get many of those lately where a player like Elijah can get his whenever he wants really (results may vary haha)

Would be interesting to see Tony match Eli with Beeks, IMac, Groves and Minor/Blake. Tell him to get in the lane and finish or find the 3 ball shooters - IMac, Groves and Beeks - around the perimeter. Give it 5 mins and assess.

I was thinking the same thing. Whe Eli drives he’s going to draw 2 or 3 defenders in the lane. He should be able to kick it out to Groves ,Imac or Reese for an open 3.

It is baffling to me that Tony doesn’t seem to see the difference Eli makes when he enters, on both ends. He is a very capable rebounder. He has a high block/steal percentage, and he can get to the rim and finish/dish.

Eli would be great against UNC and Duke. We have to counter their quickness on the perimeter with an equally high-twitch athlete like Eli.

I just hope Eli is keeping his head up. Don’t want him getting dejected. Want him to stay ready in case Tony comes to his senses.

And tired of hearing how “we don’t see the practices”. We can see (with our own eyes) what he does in games (in limited minutes).

Let him play alongside Reece and iMac as the 3 with Dunn and Minor/Blake. Eli can guard taller players because he can jump so well. Let’s see what that lineup could accomplish. My guess is we would be pretty good on both ends.

Again, sorry if it sounds like I am ranting. Very frustrated with his lack of quality minutes.

Go Hoos. Play free and with JOY. Have fun. Beat UNC.

The fact that he can get off 5 shots in 8 minutes is impressive. I get it he cant make 3s etc but when 2 of your starters dont even look at the basket on the perimeter it is exactly what this team could use… at times

17 minutes against NCCU he shot 11 times hahaha. 13 points

Im with you, I just want another guy who can create their own offense. Yes, he took a few bad shots last night but with more minutes he may not do that. We need a second guy who can beat someone off the dribble. Beeks, Gertrude, Dunn, Imac and Bucannon would be my starters for the rest of the year.

I’m guilty of seeing only the positives of Eli.

But in limited minutes last night , I think he looked like his handle was improved - much more compact and controlled.

The jumper didn’t go in but looked like it had more arc / touch. And then obviously he can get to the rim.

I’ve said before that I thought his potential impact was being a go-to scorer when we needed a bucket - spark plug that could get you 4-6 meaningful points. But would need some reps earlier in the year to trust him there.

Last night during that 10 min long scoring drought would have been the perfect spot to use him. But I get based on previous usage why he wasn’t used in that scenario.

That lineup will beat you BC and GT at least… have Rohde come off bench to give Beeks rest and mix in some Harris.

It’s worth pointing out that in 2018-19, Kody Stattman played in 18 games as a frosh…behind Guy, Jerome, Key, Hunter, and Clark.

Eli has only played in 13 games this season behind Rohde, Harris, Taine…etc…

And before you say, oh well Kody saw garbage time in big wins because we were so good,…the inverse is also true, there is no reason why Eli hasn’t seen more run in blowout losses this year. That’s a joke. Perhaps the worst player in program history…dare I say in ACC history, got more run behind a string of NBA players and Eli can’t even crack 5 mins behind TAINE MURRAY??? And I’m supposed to think Tony still has it?

He averaged 4 minutes in those 18 games. Gertrude is averaging 9.8 minutes in his 13 games - including 6 mpg since 12/30 and has played in every blowout.
Just say Gertrude should play more - the stretch to compare to Kody when he strictly saw garbage time minutes all year (and Gertrude has at least gotten some meaningful time this year) is just that, a big ole stretch

The worst player in ACC history cracked me up. He was - for lack of a better word - terrible, but that’s a stretch.

Eli’s usage is second highest on the team (for when he’s on the court).

Mostly a product of playing with scrubs. But again kinda why it’s tough to draw conclusions.

Taine Murray works hard and doesn’t make mistakes. I get your point, but Eli should be taking minutes from Harris (and perhaps Rohde), not Taine IMO.

Works for me. OT: It’s quite perplexing how bad of a shooter Harris is at this point, given his position. Do guys like him just not respect the craft or shooting drills? or pay attention to form? It’s a little concerning that we could randomly pull any casual fan out of the stands and it’s a legit 50/50 chance they sink more shots in a game of HORSE than one of our point guards. Maybe I’mbeing too harsh, but I do think I could beat him in a 3pt contest

He’s got one of the worst looking jump shots I’ve ever seen from a guard. Holds it weird and then has a catapult motion at the last second that hurls the ball at the hoop like a meteor heading for earth.

Operates like a trebuchet. Equally as accurate and as destructive (to us).

Harris launcher

Reece appears to be taking Eli under his wing like a younger brother. Fits with Reece choosing Eli’s 360 layup against Miami as his favorite play in the post game interview.

Love to see it Reece. Now let’s get this young man some more minutes : )Reece and Eli will be at the Women’s watch party
