Love all our additions but this guy is my favorite. I think he’s going to be really, really good.

Something tells me that Eli “squared” is going to work out much better than Isaac “squared”. I really like this guy; does a little of everything…

So, I have been waiting for this thread, rather than getting lost in a sea of posts in the VIP thread.

Belinda: Aztec ====> Hoo
Saunders: Aztec ====> Hoo

So excited by this! Not just because he has gone from my second favorite team – who I watched a LOT last season – to my first basketball love UVA, but also because I think he is a VERY good fit for our program.

I will leave the numbers to the stats nerds and just give my fan observations. I don’t know how many of you have watched much SDSU basketball – especially because the games often start at like 11:00 – but they are an extremely tough, physical team (all the guys are grown men, for sure) who play excellent D. A dude absolutely doesn’t get on the floor if they don’t play excellent ball on that end of the floor. He can do a bit of everything. He plays strong around the rim, can step out and make a three, and – as mentioned – is a tough defender. He can also really run if given the opportunity. He has kind of an Ian Schieffelin role, but won’t score quite as much, but tougher D.

I am biased in saying SDSU has been the only proven legit Mountain West team in NCAAT play and have just been impressive against any competition the past two years, in particular. So, starting on a team like the Aztecs he has played high-level competition, has experienced success, is not afraid of big games, and will – I think – bring a winning mentality to the team.

I think you are going to like watching him. I am so stoked…a lot of fun for me. The Aztec faithful are very bummed to see him go, fwiw. AND he is young. Tony is building something here I firmly believe, and Saunders will be a big part of it.

And, Tony – for the love of God – modify the offense!

Dude is a beast, Justin Anderson vibes. Does Cofie redshirt now?

Awesome post, Belinda. You got me even more fired up than I already was

I really like the schieffelin comparison.

I hope not, no point these days. We’re gonna need another body or two between him and A-Rob. We’re replacing a lot of minutes between Dunn, Groves, and Minor

I was thinking about this. Schieffelin is a better rebounder, but Saunders is WAY more athletic. I think he has a really high ceiling because of his athleticism, and we know what Tony does with athletic 4s.

I’m going to go watch some of Saunders videos. He’s a grown ass man. Be a Junior next year?

He’s going to fit perfectly. I dont know how many foul shots he took but he made 94%. He can score inside and out

Here’s extended highlights from Yale and UConn. Did a nice job in individual defense v Wolf (Center, albeit a shooter) on Yale and v Karaban on UConn. Showed his versatility there a bit.

Not that involved offensively in either one, but a few nice buckets. Forgot how good Jaden Ledee is.
