Wasn’t there an Obinna Ekezie at MD back in the day?

Apparently we offered: Obinna Ekezie Jr. Recruit Interests

Dad is indeed a Maryland alum, so the Terp fans are salivating over him and pairing him with Baba as a reclass.

To which I say…can we flip Baba?

Looks like reclass is an option he’s considering

Remind me who Baba is again

Professional college player.

Top 10 recruit who reclassed from 2027 to 2026 and I think committed to Maryland.

Elise Aussi the italian guard we had interest in commits to GW

Our actual pace didn’t matter as much as other coaches trying to make it clear that we played slow and a brand of basketball that wouldn’t prepare them for the NBA (which was preposterous give the guys we got to the league). Nobody is negative recruiting is anymore. Duke was frequently a sub 250 tempo team in the late K years and nobody ever used that against them. It was just that we had a public stigma related to style of play that we constantly had to battle against. Not an issue anymore.

Our lack of 2026 commits has to do a lot more of how we view the 2026 class than it does our recruiting abilities. That’s not to say we haven’t lost recruitments but we’ve actively participated in like a handful at most.

I don’t understand why any fan would be wringing their hands about anything the staff is doing. I think they have earned our complete trust at this point. I remember when many (maybe even myself) were openly questioning why we’d blow over a million on Ugo.

You make valid points but this is a flawed team that is toughing out wins. Even my uncredentialed eye can see that. There’s no answer on this squad defensively for a NBA-prospect swing man. Take a look at the Caleb Wilson highlights from that shoestore game.

Name me one team that is not flawed. Whoops! THERE ARE NONE!!!

Fair. But I only have interest in watching this one. And my inferential point is that the STAFF is not infallible and maybe despite the $$$$ and the admin co-op we are still where we have always been. Hunting the margins and out-systeming our peers. YMMV.

We’ve been linked to him at various points. Interesting choice, but it seems like he was limited as a 6’5ā€ guy who is kind of a natural PF.

Why does UVA have zero on the ESPN 100? Happy to kill off this thread if there’s an organized discussion elsewhere about how fall of 2026 is shaping up re: New arrivals. I’d have thought we’d at least be in the running for some names but i know it takes time… is it just Portal + 2027 at this point? Discuss…

I think

  1. It was hard to sell a new coach at a power 5 school

  2. Staff seemed focused on overpaying veteran transfers and offering smaller bags to young guys with few years left

I think it still works in our favor. If we land any 2026 kids in the spring off decomits/coaching changes/still uncommited I think that class still looks better than one they try to hobble together last fall. We are in a much better place pitching UVA and we have Chance to build around/a clear vision for the program

They also seem hyper focused on 2027 and 2028 based on their follows and activity on social media

GW is spending money. Castro is probably making seven figures or close to it this year. I wonder if they make a coaching change.

I wonder how much ā€œlegit NILā€ the crumbl and nutricost guys can funnel through to players. Or have they been cleared to not have to pretend to follow the rules?
