Fall Recruiting Action

Um wow I don’t know anybody with hops like that? Great picture and great angle. Cryin’ Zion may be able to do that but there is no proof of it.

3 quick take aways from that photo

-Leon Bond is 6’9 if you include hair which I do. Still have to shoot over the hair.
-Traudt a legitimate 6’9/6’10
-We are going to win a national title sooner than later

Bond is much taller than I expected. Him as a small ball 4 is not really that small.

Yeah Bond is taller than McKneely if he is 6’4/ 6’5 and looks to be closer to 6’7 and I do like the logic of 6’9 with hair :slightly_smiling_face:

Once Gardner & Caffaro are done, they might be the last of the “traditional” 4/5 guys to come through for awhile.

Not sure we’ve seen enough of Shedrick to say for sure, but our bigs moving forward don’t fit that mold. Milicic, Traudt, Bond, maybe Dunn. That’s who will share the floor with a PG, and a couple of 6’3-6’5 guards like McKneely, Murray & McCorkle.

I would be very hesitant to suggest any trends for now. Among other things, the staff did show considerable interest in Efton Reid in the 2021 cycle. While I am no authority, it seems to me that the staff identifies players they like, and then determine where there is mutual interest. They try and get the best players available, and then figure out how the pieces fit. If a 7’2", 265 lbs, skilled center showed serious interest in UVa, I imagine the staff would reciprocate that interest. I believe that there are a lot of things which go toward making a prospect a good “fit” for Virginia, and that the ones for which no compromises will be made have little to do with their physical characteristics!

Part of the reason why they cooled off on Reid, on top of the other things like the whole IMG/LSU aspect, was because he was a slow footed traditional big.

On the other hand, they knew he was a “slow footed traditional big”, as you say, when they began recruiting him. I have no inside information, but it seemed to me that the “cooling” didn’t take place until later in the process. Much later. I suspect that the cooling had to do with things they learned along the way, and was not due to things they knew from the outset. Of course, I could be wrong.

That’s fair. They also began recruiting him in 2018/2019. I think their vision has changed in terms of their recruiting targets.

I do agree! I think they wanted to bring him along at their pace but he had stars in his eyes with early PT.

Clearly need to get Traudt some LRA gear.

He had stars in his eyes… like being a 1AD…

Bad advice! Plus who know what else. His recruitment was quiet till the end and then it became a circus!

Good point on when Reid’s recruiting start. In 2018 we hadn’t made that transition yet.

I’m framing this picture.

Tony is such a legend. This was our ideal scenario guys, minus them having a 4th potential commit there as well but I’d be more than happy with this as the class given the changes in the transfer market
