There are 2 insane Anti Gravity Gertrude alley oops falling between 4 and 5 minutes in the video. Entire thing is reall good including the kid announcers going crazy ha
Fine, but kinda lukewarm.
Thought that was much better than lukewarm, but as always need to take these interviews w a grain.
Visit went very well. Player and family got a great feel for what the program, coach, and school are all about. Thatās about the best you can hope for in this day and age. Theyāll be making an informed decision on UVA. Tennessee up next and will certainly have more glitz (and promises). Weāll see what wins out. Not ruling out the other two, especially his coach connections at KState, but Tenn and UVA are big boy programs.
Yes, always best not to get Carried away.
Despite a lot of hype on this site - I am beginning to wonder if he might not be under appreciated elsewhere AND end up being a prophet and perform miracles for this programā¦
He said the right things, for the most part. On the other hand, there was no mention of āacademicsā, and I am unsure if that is a good thing or a bad thing. Or course, he might have had a lot to say about that, and Houston Wilson decided to omit that portion of the interview. Sometimes it is easy to forget most of what we hear from recruits is either second hand, or abbreviated quips on social media. On the upside, it wasnāt reported that he thought the trip sucked.
Yeah this is basically more informative about how Tony pitched Carr than anything else. Trey Murphy comparison, diamond in the rough, development, minutes are not guaranteed. Good, honest pitch.
Carr did call out one UVA advantage that made me laugh. I think this is our new ace in the hole, guys:
Duke has the brotherhood.
Kansas has the bag.
UVA has āyou donāt have to travel all over the campus to get to different placesā.
Couldnāt ever use that though because the teenager who isnāt from Virginia and may not even come to UVA didnāt use the word āgrounds.ā
I got to be honest, this is one area where I feel like things are a bit out of whack in all modern D-1 sports. He was basically saying that thereās a bunch of cool stuff right in JPJ, so why would you leave?
Which ⦠I donāt know? Maybe because youāre going to college at a really beautiful place and maybe your #1 concern shouldnāt be minimizing your steps between the place you eat your meals and the place you work out and the place you play hoops?
Tbh, it even seems like a disconnect between the late 90s and now when you hear guys on podcasts. Itās too bad.
I harp on this a lot, but āconnection to the schoolā is the #1 thing thatās important for college sports fans, per the Alston litigation surveys (plaintiff side, to be fair), and the wacky way that D-1 sports has evolved recently is to totally undercut that. (meaning $$ for ridiculous āall-in-oneā facilities, encouraging more movement, etc.).
This is actually a huge deal for recovery though lol gotta eat within that 30-45 minute window (or whatever the current recommendation is).
Thatās why God blessed UVa with the amazing UTS buses and bus drivers!
Someone here, I think recently admitted to being a UTS driver. Was it @FivePillar ? They were an interesting breed, for sure (at least in my day).
Thatās actually total bro science. Basically no difference as long as you have good total protein intake over the 24-48 hour period
Almost guarantee there are a dozen+ people on here who drove the bus. I did. And there is a 0.0% chance the bus would get them to dining halls within the recovery period
Bus culture was like most clubs at UVA. The people who were really into it could be strange. But most of us were just trying to work a job that fit easily around classes and other activities.
Agreed there are certainly studies which argue that but Iāve yet to see anything conclusive. Like most things in nutrition. I mean, if we really get into it, even with all the progress weāve made in most other scientific fields we still havenāt figured out if beef is good for you or not.
Iāve figured it out. It is.
Then, again, did you ever have to hike from the far reaches of the Alderman Road dorms to Mama Newcs for your breakfast? (FWIW, my first year, the Ed School was still on The Lawn, and there was no pedestrian bridge over Rt 29. We climbed the steps on ācardiac hillā every day!) Slainte!
One of the best things in my time was all the athletes ate together at Bryant Hall and we were all really close and friends til this day Living in first year dorms you made lotta friends that werent on teams. Slaughter as well including some non students or former students that were still living in Cville. And of course the BBS on grounds where basically everyone passed by or hung out at some point every day.
Having everything at JPJ is great but man does it make your circle(s) way smaller. The main reason to go to Virginia is the access it gives you to all kinds of people (as we all know). Hopefully our guys are still in the overall mix of students during their time at UVa
