Fall Recruiting Continued

Good relationship with Bennett so that’s a bummer. Didn’t grow up a fan though so there might be a chance.

Apparently Freitag is a legit football prospect too. He broke his collar bone and missed last year football but a lot of bigger football programs are monitoring him (like Notre Dame hosting him on a visit recently) as a wide receiver prospect. And he seems to be popping off. Still think he picks basketball but him going football is a bigger threat than I thought

Here’s the stream of when Freitag played Knueppel (and Janowski). Tony is on the right side. Greg Gard is center court cause everyone on both teams has a Wisconsin offer, basically their 2024 recruiting board. Freitag had a good game but Knueppel’s team won in a blowout with Knueppel and Janowski putting up video game numbers if I recall correctly.

He plays hoop like he is a football player. My opinion from some highlights here

Oh yeah. But not always a bad thing. Need that physicality and fearlessness.
Freitag was the 3rd most efficient scorer in Nike 16U (Knueppel was first). Also 6+ free throws a game.

More of a downhill scoring guard. Not sure he’s a pure 1 floor general running the team. But he’s the kind of player I LOVE at the shooting guard spot. 2-3 capable ball handlers at all times on the floor.

On all his best offensive moves/ dunks/ plays I dont see anyone near him really. I just need to see more. Dude is a crazy athlete and strong for sure. Football player

Good at finding places on the court where there are no defenders and then getting the ball in his hands.

Freitag could be a two-sport athlete at UVA. Wouldn’t even be any conflict because by the time basketball starts up the football season is already over (for all intents and purposes).

There is 0.0% chance Tony would let his starting pg play football. Days of doing both at a high level are over. See Drake London

No Virginia mention (just brief mention of schools that have offered). But UVA of course involved. General take away is that he is in no rush at all and will probably do more visits in the late winter/spring. Believe @HoozGotNext has said that he is most likely a 2023 recruit, not a 2024. No idea about the New Zealand big guy.

Does Freitag have a visit set up here? Only mentions unofficials to Iowa and Nebraska in the article despite the glowing statements about Tony.

I believe @HoozGotNext said they want to get him down after his football season is over. Also during basketball season.

I love the term “plays downhill” you see to describe players in sports… I always thought I played basketball downhill because I would run, lose body control, get called for a charge or fall down and then lose the ball. LOL! In my mind… downhill is not a good term, but what do I know? Hahaha!

I think this rule actually makes a lot of sense to change… why limit to 5? Seems arbitrary. Limiting one per school too makes sense.

Blake Buchanan dunk (need instagram account to see).

Herbstreit uses the term 400 times per conversation when talking about a defense. Would love it if he would talk about a defense that is struggling and playing uphill.

“I’m not sure when I will cut a list but it will be relatively soon,” he said of what’s next. “I am going to Ole Miss in November for a visit and still want to set up a few more visits. I want to get down to Virginia, they just offered, Cincinnati and a couple other schools.”

Schools are still calling and getting more involved, LSU and Wake Forest being two of those that have been ramping up their interest, he said.

Perry doesn’t know the number he will cut it to or when he will do it but he just knows it is coming soon.

Freitag needs to work on driving and finishing with his left to be good at next level.
