Looks solid vs. the comp. I canāt judge how he translates but seems to have the prerequisites.
Offers from USC, Memphis, BC, Cincy, Rutgers, Texas Tech, Pitt, Kentucky, OKST, Cal, Wisconsin, GT, Houston, Colorado, and more.
SOLD.
Dudes got some quick ass feet. And he appears to have power with his bull rush. That move may not translate to the P4 but could be used as a change of pace. Iād certainly take a flyer on him as a versatile edge rusher.
Whoās to say SC would have made their push had Bronco-Anae-Beck remained in Charlottesville?
He was easier to flip once they all went their separate ways.
He was pretty vocal about SC being his dream school from what I remember. Hometown kid and it was repeated multiple times during his recruitment by insiders that if SC got involved, it would be a problem for us.
SC offered very late in the process, well after he had decommitted from us and they landed him shortly after.
He followed Beck to Syracuse first, though. He had a very good relationship with the staff.
But Syracuse is cold and a helluva long way from Florence (about a 90-minute drive to Columbia ā essentially like going from Highland Springs to Charlottesville, not exactly the āhometownā school).
He had a great relationship with Beck specifically, itās not like Anae was out there building inroads with recruits.
SC put effort into recruiting him for all of two months out of what was a two year cycle, fact of the matter is he just really wanted to go there. Believe it or not even at a 90 minute drive theyāre still the hometown school unless he really wanted to go to Coastal.
I donāt mean to be snarky about this, but I do vividly remember it being said multiple times by Jamie Oakes āThis commitment will get messy if SC offersā.
Sorry, but thatās bullshit. You donāt know that. He certainly didnāt want to go to Syracuse, thatās for sure. And I donāt blame him.
And Jamie Oakes never has nor ever will know shit.
Lawd
I think I do know that actually, based on the fact that he went there and is still there.
But keep pressing this convo for no reason pls with whatever point youāre trying to make.
Gentle never made it on his visit here, heās off the board.
Wasnāt crazy about him anyway but also we do need to land a couple of OL targets at some point.
How many OL guys do we need?
At least two, both interior, one who can play C if (when) Metcalf goes down (he has yet to play a full season in his career), and another to be the ACC-level RG we havenāt had in years. Preferably then add 1-2 younger guys to be long term options after all the rising seniors graduate, especially if the starter transfers we end up getting have only 1 year left.
Hereās the summary post on the OL room I made last week; jump to it for the full breakdown:
Note: not included is Christ who some have mentioned could ask for a medical 6th year or something, but heās gone two years without making a dent so Iām not getting invested.
Summary: four guys who started last year, two more who started a couple years ago at previous schools but were hurt last year, then a bunch of guys whoāve basically never sniffed more than special teams.
Iād like to see some similar version of the following depth chart shake out over the next few weeks:
Starter | Reserve 1 | Reserve 2 | |
---|---|---|---|
LT | Boley | Witmer | Wleklinski |
LG | Josey | Sipe | Hartsoe |
C | (Transfer) | Metcalfe | Ellinger |
RG | (Transfer) | Surber | (Transfer) |
RT | Steen | Witmer | York |
I think the latest on Christ was that heās done with football. JF doesnāt have him listed on her scholarship chart anymore.
Both Christ brothers spent a lot of years in college not playing a whole lotta football anywhere.
Technically, Jimmy didnāt need a medical for 2025, just a regular redshirt. Free year in 2020, redshirt in 2021, regular eligibility in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.
Last thing Iāll add about the OL transfer situation:
The thing we really want is a starter level guy with multiple seasons of eligibility left. Of the 15 OL on the roster, five are seniors, so weāre already faced with replacing a ton next offseason, looking at at best Steen being our only starter who could come back in 2026.
All the guys weāve been looking at so far, Wallace, Gentle, the UAB kid, all rising RS/Bonus seniors. I know our academics blow when it comes to undergrad transfers, but thereās gotta be a way to get some rising 3rd year who absolutely blew up at a G5 school to come play 2 years at Guard for us?
We need talent, not just bodies. Hopefully a bigger and better batch will come out after the bowls are done.
