Package deal? Watch son for a year and he replaces Des? Could see Des moving on

Nah, I think our best bet would be to get him to come on as an analyst. Not as much of a time commitment.

He then went on to have a pretty lackluster year at the high school level in Texas. First loss at home for his team in 10 years and their worst record in ~15.

Probably still an upgrade on Des, but he’s not exactly a guy you want around your program either.

Probably? Des has never run an offense that scored more than 23.2 points a game. Morris’ worst year was more than 25 — in the toughest division in the toughest league in the country (Auburn in 2020).

I think Des should be coaching middle school somewhere!

But Clemson’s 2014 offense is sort of what has us in this mess! We’re still running it! His stats from 2014 don’t do much for me, and a 90th rank at Auburn doesn’t either.

Texas state was good on offense before he got there. Kinne is a good coach and their actual OC just got hired by Texas Tech.

I just think there should be a freeze on hiring former Clemson assistants across college football until we figure out what the hell is going on.

This would be huge. JF says in the comments that he may be able to enroll in the spring.

Wonder how he can still enroll. Add/drop deadline passed already. Hmm…since he’s a grad transfer, I wonder if he could enroll in a certificate or non-degree program in the School of Continuing and Professional Studies to be eligible to play. Depends on how much he cares about the education part I guess, but he got his degree from ND, so he might care at least a little.

With the ND guy possibly coming we have to be losing guys this spring??? Seems like a lot of OL and GOOD OL.

We absolutely will and that’s ok. The staff took a lot of flyers in the first OL class and we’ve been paying for it on the field for years now and have been trying (unsuccessfully for years until now to backfill

Yup attrition in the spring is part of the game now with no transfer restrictions. Its actually a perk that football is able to over recruit ams guys can make a choice and still have an opportunity to land elsewhere before the season starts

If Josey gets beat out at his Guard spot I’d be surprised if he sticks around tbh. Don’t know him personally or anything, but as a guy who already has his degree, has been a two year starter here and is in his last year of eligibility, it would honestly make a ton of sense for him to pursue other options. On the flip side of that, upgrading at the Guard spots would be major for us. It’s not like Josey’s been bad, he’s a perfectly solid high major Offensive Lineman. But to have some real road graders along the interior would be a welcomed change of pace for us, imagine not only winning the point of attack but actually being able to dominate in there.

We will have to worry about our depth going forward past this year though. Spindler is another grad transfer, if you add him in along with Mills, Wilson, Wyatt, Wigenton, Metcalf, Josey, Witmer, and Sipe, that’s almost an entire two deep worth of Grad Student OL and it doesn’t even factor in potential attrition from players like Boley or Steen if they lose their starting spots. Maybe some of those guys find extra years of eligibility via the magic of NCAA having zero leverage anymore when it comes to enforcing their rules, but past that we’re looking at a hell of a rebuild in the trenches for 2026.

Only UVA fans would spin getting the best OL portal class in the country by a mile into a potential negative :grimacing:

Come on man, seriously?

I’ve viewed this offseason as a major positive and am fully behind the roster moves Tony has made. It screams ā€œThis is a make or break year for me and I need to win as many games as possible next yearā€ which is absolutely the approach he should be taking with his job on the line. And I’m hoping if all goes well the momentum we gain from a good season on the field will translate to more success in recruiting and the portal next year.

Pointing out the potential ramifications down the line of the moves we are making doesn’t change any of that. Figured that much was clear :man_shrugging: .

We did it, we’re too good.

What’s the last year we got a push on the OL? I don’t think we did a single year under Bronco, only pass pro from the OL

Early to mid Groh last time a true rush attack with oline push

As long as I’ve been a UVa football fan, I’ve never seen us go all-in on one year like 2025. Elliott better get it done with this group.

Probably already been asked but with a better roster and a soft schedule, how do we know if CTE is a good coach or not at end of next year?

I guess if we crap the bed we’ll know, but what is the outcome where you go…sure that was better but not good enough. 8 wins?

Honest question, what result gets him off the hot seat he was on before we started throwing money at the portal?

Seven reg season if one of the wins is VT or eight without VT
