It’s crazy that 7 seems like an incredible year, even though Mike effin London won 8 at uva

I kinda feel like we already know he’s not, but he still could win 7 or 8 next year. I think 6 with this team should still be fireable, but I know our admin won’t.

If we pull off poaching a Notre Dame starting offensive lineman, then there is no excuse for UVA’s next starting pg to not be Dedan Thomas Jr.

The bags are coming

I think we get him. He prolly just wants to start earning money for the ACC for a change.

We land him?

Just saw we spent a million on him. That donor money is going to go quick

Throwing out money like this moves the bar up on Elliott… I personally feel like it should be 8 wins or bust.

Pretty easy schedule and bringing in good talent, he’ll be held accountable if he doesn’t find success now… but atleast in his defense he’s getting a completely fair shake now. No excuses if Hoos can’t meet expectations come December.

I think even this year’s Virginia team (meaning 2024-25) would have gotten 8 wins against next year’s schedule. So with an influx of talent, 8 wins is too low of a bar. (Unless it turns out our new QB totally sucks, or we suffer a major injury bug.)

9 wins including VT, 10 without. That should be baseline expectations for Elliott. I’m looking for 10 including Tech, and busting some teams up along the way.

We’ve got like one 10 win season all time. Some solid pieces but we need to adjust expectations lol. It takes time to teach a bunch of hired guns, see FSU and Ole Miss. I also don’t think we have a treasure chest on O outside maybe OL, and our entire defense is still shaky at best. Would love a @StLouHoo roster breakdown

Agree wirh @JoeBoxley the plug and play upgrades in football don’t translate as neatly as they do in hoops typically.

The schedule is a massive help but its not a cakewalk. A reasonable O/U of 7.5 feels right. Its also far too early to establish expectations until they hit the ground in spring ball and given the volume new faces they’ll need wvery rep of the fall too.

Yeah Welsh went 10-3 once other than that that’s it…

But I don’t think a winning season shouldn’t be expected. UVA just got a starting OL from the team in the championship game AND got him locked up shutting out last years national champs from even getting a visit… if they’re doing these types of things they’re committing to ā€œbig boyā€ football IMO and that means you gotta have success. 6-6 would be an overwhelming disappointment and I don’t really think 7-5 moves the needle enough with all the money they’ve spent/number of final year players they’re going to have…

As @JBHoo said, Elliott’s been given a favorable schedule and multimillions to go out and buy the pieces he thinks he needs. Given that, I just don’t see how we’re gonna say Elliott’s a keeper if he finishes 8-5. (ā€œAll that, and you still just barely got to ā€˜good’?ā€) Or even 9-4 if it includes yet another loss to VT (at home, after a bye week). Those are historically great records for Virginia teams, but that’s not Elliott’s bar given the context.

Is that true? He hasn’t committed publicly yet.

Fair point fair point. But smoke has been positive outside of the on3 stuff.

Update: DAMMIT. Went to Nebraska. Scuttle is they matched our offer fwiw.

If he goes 9-4 with a loss to VT, I think it’s almost a certainty that he will keep coaching us. Our roster has improved for sure, but it’s not like we are trotting out Ohio State East. That’s probably true with 8 wins also, although we would all be pissed. I think 7 wins with a VT loss is probably walking papers, but I’m not even sure then.
