To be clear my bar is my bar, not a prediction of what the administration will do. They might well keep Elliott on after going 6-7.
I don’t believe there’s a hard win total that keeps vs punts Elliott. Beat VT and make a bowl, he’s staying. Win 9 games, yeah absolutely staying. Miss a bowl, almost surely gone. Anywhere from 6-8 wins, all depends on context…so much of the postseason mood depends on how you finish the season.
Assume we are not done yet in the football portal?
Definitely not. DB or two in the spring window.
If CTE wins 9 he’s staying no matter how they get to that 9.
Here’s a kid who can test whether the money we are throwing around matters. Woodberry kid (for a year), from Louisa County, still has yet to visit UVa, but boasts an offer.
Gonna be really awkward when he starts shooting flaming arrows into the other side line and Carla’s just sitting there like “nine wins is nine wins. Listen.”
For the record I would be saying this along with Carla if he got to 9 wins.
UVa is not firing a football coach who ends up with a winning record and a bowl appearance, unless he launches flaming arrows at an opposing sideline other than VPI’s. 7-6 means he stays. 6-7 will be close. Anything less, he will need some help from a big money donor.

Well that would be moronic
Seems like CTE taught some of his QBs the technique to get them over there…

I might let him fire one at the rotunda if he got to 10 wins.
Yeah but you probably thought it was moronic to keep Elliott and the assistants after last season too
Yeah i did but with the AD uncertainty and CTB retirement I can rationalize it. Would be hard to do so with some 7-6 record. This university needs to get a grip
We’re winning 8 games so this is all moot
In the last 70 years, UVa has had 23 seasons with 7+ wins (33%). Coaches named Welsh and Groh got 18 of them over a span of 28 years (64%). In the other 42 years, under 10 coaches, we had five 7+ win seasons (17%). You might not like it, but 7 wins will get it done for CTE this year.
I am positive we retain him if he wins 7, but I hope we are wise enough not to give an extension or anything.
Would you rather we
- Win 8 games including Tech
- Win 9 games losing to Tech
Yeah, after this season he’ll have 3 years left on his original 7 year deal. Usually that means time to extend so a coach can tell a recruit he’ll be there the entire time the kid is in school, but with the no sit transfer rules, does that even matter anymore?
Could also extend him with no increase in the buyout, so no new guaranteed money.
