Or maybe she was directed to give him an interview and the purse strings would open for Operations Funding.
A lot of smoke
It’s been a mind blowing experience.
The BOV is voting tomorrow. It’s possible that TE wants to see some official commitment to upgrades before he walks away from 2 mil a yr. Thamel commented today that TE has not removed himself from consideration for the UVA job.
He very well could pull the lever tomorrow. I think by this time tomorrow we will have our answer from TE.
Is it? A ton of schools have processes that are way more drawn out and have way more rumors floating around. Look at Oregon right now. Look at Tennessee every other year. Duke still hasn’t found their coach and they’ve been looking for longer, just nobody here cares so nobody is following the minute-to-minute. We’ve only been looking for one week after a completely unexpected resignation, but we are following every single internet rumor so it feels crazy. I’d say this search isn’t really that unusual. Our previous ones were abnormally quiet, if anything, which may have been partially because in each of those situations we’d known for a while we were going to be looking for a new coach in the offseason and I’m guessing our athletic department had already taken preliminary steps.
Exactly!! It’s been 8 days and considering this was an unexpected hiring and the school is not going to throe endless funds at someone. The process has been pretty normal from a professional point. The fans and message boards have blown it out of proportion.
The basketball team being bad is not doing Carla any favors with this
Which is ironic because the basketball team being good covered the football teams ass for like 5 yrs
If Elliott passes on us, I have a hard time believing Gattis is a serious option. We’d have the same obstacles with a hotshot young coordinator at a power school.
Yeah but Elliot is very particular given what we’ve seen over the years. Gattis may be less so
Agreed Elliot seems to be waiting out for the right fit for him. He’s already passed on bigger jobs in the last two years. Making me think there’s a specific thing/situation he’s seeking.
Yeah, Elliott’s “pickiness” is curious. My understanding is he’s passed on some pretty good SEC jobs, so why UVa? We don’t invest financially in the program like most SEC programs, we don’t sell games out no matter who the opponent is, and admissions doesn’t budge much on academic risks. Before Tony Bennett I always felt like we were a sleeping giant in hoops…football will always have unique challenges, and a risky job for a young coordinator who’s used to fishing in a different pond for talent/resources.
Is anyone else sniffing around Gattis? He may be more eager to move, Michigan has spent the last 5 yrs trying to punch through, finally made it and could fall back down after this year’s run, while Elliot at Clemson has a longer history of success and a shorter trip back to the top if he wants to stay put.
Given that he turned down or pulled out of the Tennessee, Auburn and South Carolina searches but is now considering Virginia and Duke maybe he’s looking for not a dumpster fire of an athletic department and not a fanbase with outsized expectations, but enough support and budget that he can compete enough to exceed a lower tier of expectations.
Or maybe he thinks his stock is falling and needs to either cash in now or double down and let it ride.
The guy makes 2 million per year at a place with unlimted football resources… tough sell for him to jump for sure
Based on a brief google search, I only found Colorado State and the Detroit Lions OC job. And Illinois last year.
So we’re talking a lower tier resume from Elliott, but maybe 2 tiers above Poindexter.
Maybe he knows DJ isn’t good
Re: why someone might turn down the SEC … it’s getting too big. Depending how they structure the playoff, you might be better off as the big fish / smaller pond. Just a guess.
