Don’t forget how different the times are from a media perspective. Social media was still in its infancy when CTB was hired. And was huge when Bronco was hired but it’s only grown since then.
The name of the game now is news breaking and everyone has a Twitter and uses it as a microphone. Nonone checks sources every program has 10 boards like this one.
Point being there’s a lot more spotlight on this hire than previous ones.
We should expect our AD to be with the times and understand social media and plane tracking.

Agree with the other posters. You don’t allow something to become public unless your absolutely certain.
I mean, what exactly do you want her to do? Have a press conference in the middle of a hiring process? That would seemingly be infinitely worse. And to say what? “Hey everyone, chill. We’re interviewing people. Not all interviews work out. Have literally any of you ever interviewed for a job or hired people?”
You cannot control the internet. You cannot control message boards. Doing so 90% of the time has the opposite of the effect you intend. Her job is to interview candidates and make a good hire while working with very limited resources. If she’s wasting time trying to control fans arguing amongst themselves because it has been an entire week since we found out we need a coach and we don’t have an answer yet, that would not seemingly be a great use of time. Maybe she could have folks fly into Richmond and try and be more stealthy so fans tracking flights have a harder time figuring things out, but that seems slightly insane.
If there is an issue here, it’s the number of UVA folks potentially leaking info to reporters. Maybe that is partially on her and she needs to tighten up her ship, but we also don’t know who is leaking, if they are people she even has authority over, or how many of these leaks are even real versus somebody like Dex’s agent just passing things off to people like JR.
This plane tracking thing is creeping me out for real for real. Can a brother take a PJ from A to B and not get stalked?
Yea control social media and message boards thats an easy thing to do.
I’ll also just note, in terms of things becoming public, there are multiple parties involved. Everybody is so quick to blame the AD, but in these situations it is also often the other side. Coaches’ agents do this stuff all the time - make it known your guy is a hot commodity and getting interviewed so that even if they don’t take the job, their rep is improved. That often can be used to leverage raises from their current employer or make them seem more attractive for the next head coaching vacancy. I feel like we see this all over college football and basketball all the time.
All that is to say, when you hear information about something happening, folks should consider it could have come from any number of places. Maybe it is indeed the AD’s shop, maybe it’s other Virginia personnel (it’s a gigantic institution and probably not that hard to find things out), maybe it’s the coach’s agent/the coach, or maybe it’s people with blogs reading way too much into publicly available info like flight plans.

If she’s asking candidates to consider them, I have no issue with that. If she’s telling the candidates they have to keep certain people on, then that’s a really bad way to hire a coach since coaches should have the ability to hire their own staff and sink or swim with them (just like Bronco did). If that comes out and is verified, then by all means, folks should judge that accordingly. But so much of this process is people just making judgements of it with insanely limited information. So let’s see.

I want to be clear that I don’t think Carla has been a disaster or anything. I just think courting AP wasn’t wise if we weren’t gonna hire him. Lots of long term downside risk. But maybe we were and he declined or bungled a bit
My uneducated guess - Dex was on the short list, which makes sense, and was having preliminary discussions along with Ellis and others. This leaked (either by him to his buddies or by his agent for leverage) and then all hell broke loose, esp once Hootie committed journalistic malpractice and fanned the flames.
Yeah I mean I have no idea what she should do. I’m definitely not qualified for the position. I just know that this coaching search is abnormal and embarrassing.
I do think we were already talking to Dex about a DC position but then the Bronco resignation threw a wrench in everything. Maybe we felt we had to at least interview even though he wasn’t viewed as HC material
You keep making it seem like she is “allowing” something to be happening when people can check flight manifests and can literally camp out at CHO to film who is coming and going. She can’t control what outside, rabid, story hungry fans are going to do or think.
