Pretty sure thatâs the plan. I think 2026 center recruiting is almost like they were trying with Rippey. You go after impact guys and treat them like you would transfers, because thatâs what youâll be going after if you donât get one. I think theyâll probably âsettleâ for trying with other guys on the list if it doesnât happen but they donât fill the immediate gap so sorta a different equation.
Taylor is shooting like 250% from the field in EYBL play (actually 75% at Peach Jam, 67% in regular seasons).
An elite player from KS with multiple campus visits already. This recruitment gives off whiff of a dog and pony show. But alright you do you Coach O.
Naw, I love this. Just swing for the fences. If you miss, there are plenty of other options around roster construction anyway (we just saw a bunch).
Itâs a weird time to be a 4-star HS recruit anyway. I feel like for a program like ours, those guys are complete lottery tickets who not only need to be ready to contribute for you by their second season; but need to be ready to contribute at a level thatâs at least as good as who you can realistically pull from the portal.
Because if theyâre not ready - the program is probably comfortable waiting on them and developing them - but theyâre probably not comfortable hanging around when they could likely get paid more (and play, allowing them to potentially get paid even more) by leaving.
Feels very club soccer or big market MLB at the moment. Of course youâd rather your developmental program/farm team churn out the talent for all of the benefits that come with that - but if it doesnât, you have plenty of ways to just go and get the talent that others have developed.
Whatâs really impressed me with Odom so far isnât just that heâs willing to exist in this current environment, itâs thatâs heâs clearly been very strategic about how he wants to do so and how to try to leverage the resources at his disposal to maximize value. Whether or not it comes together in execution is an entirely different discussion - but I like the vision.
On3 has an interview with Ethan Taylor posted today, nothing that interesting, but he gave the most honest quotes on visits Iâve ever heard. I couldnât help but laugh.
Kansas: âI didnât learn anything about Kansas I didnât already knowâ then said the usual nice things.
Kansas State: âAgain, I didnât learn anything there that I didnât already knowâ, followed by nice things.
Parker Robinson had my favorite ones recently: Four-star '26 prospect Parker Robinson updates recruitment process | Zagsblog
West Virginia : âI like what they were doing last year with coach [Darian] DeVries , obviously. But this year thereâs been a change, so Iâm excited to see what they can do this year with the new style of play, the type of players theyâre bringing in. Iâm excited to see how I can fit that mold.â
Anytime the old coach gets mentioned more than the new coach in a blurb things are going great.
Maryland : âSo I havenât talked to Buzz [Williams] yet, but one of the guys from Overtime, Aki Collins , just went over there. He got a job over there, so heâs going to put me in touch with their guys so far, and I grew up like 45 minutes away from campus. When I went out there on an unofficial when coach Willard was there, it was beautiful. I know theyâre building a new facility down there, so lâm excited to see what that looks like. But thatâs like my hometown school, so letâs see what happens.â
I really like the idea that the new assistant coach at Maryland is going to put him âin touch with their guysâ since Buzz hasnât reached out. Is that coach not allowed to say âwe should recruit himâ or is that a way of signaling to the kid that Maryland might not be interested?
