I feel there’s a road to us being a very good team, maybe even hop into the rankings a few times, but maybe even more interesting is that we have strong enough highs on both sides to be a potential dark horse in any situation

Honestly, I’ve never cared how we’ve won over the years since I became a UVa hoops fan as a kid in the early Eighties. As long as we have at least one more point than our opponent when the horn sounds, I’m happy, even if my heart isn’t. Which is why I seldom complain about style or substitution patterns or coaching decisions that hurt but don’t cost us a game.

Just win, baby!

In March that’ll be all that matters. Saw that especially during the 2019 run

Fun reading thru this thread after the game lol

It’s like road rage. Makes me think irrationally for no particularly good reason

That was a really good win under a lot of weird circumstances.

And we might be really really good come Jan.

Top takeaway: Virginia’s mustache game is weak. I’m looking at you, Hall, Mallory, and Grünloh.

Yeah I mean TDR is dominant.. just needs to cut out the dumb fouls and stupid turnovers. Malik was off but can draw fouls like the best of em. Chance is a revelation. Hall came through in the clutch. Grünloh’s d was a difference maker. Lewis kept us in it.

Ugo… Jacari..we just pretend that didn’t happen

I was surprised Ugo didn’t get more run down the stretch given how much Grünloh was struggling to cover on ball screens. Ended up working out though, Grünloh made some big defensive plays the final couple of minutes.

Tank was honestly solid defensively tonight when he wasn’t fouling, if he can just figure out how to adjust to the tighter whistle of the college game then other teams are fucked.

My son (who’d been on the road) joined me with about 9-10 minutes to go. As the game was winding down, I said to him, “Has anyone scored a basket while you’ve been watching, other than that one (Hall) three-pointer?” We thought about it and couldn’t remember any other FGs lol.

There were actually a couple when he first started watching, but I checked, and in the last 7:59, the teams combined for three made FGs.

It wasn’t as athletic, but that block reminded me of Zion Williamson’s against Dre Hunter in JPJ in 2019 in that it came out of nowhere and occurred in an absolutely pivotal portion of the game.

I thought it was interesting how Odom shortened the rotation. Eli didn’t play at all. Ugo played nine minutes. Jacari played only 13, and would have played less if TDR and Chance hadn’t fouled out. I wonder if this reflects Odom’s “real” rotation, or if he’s going to change it based on situations and matchups.

By the way I just skimmed the thread and let me say you are all terrible fans, you’re doing it all wrong and should be ashamed.

That was a high level enjoyable game with a UVA dub! Why are we complaining :joy:

We got a gauntlet coming up with Butler, Texas, Dayton, and Maryland before ACC play. This was a good litmus test for us. Good we got the W at the end of the day

This game made me realize one thing. Win or lose I am going to enjoy watching these Hoos as long as Chance is in the game. He impacts the game in every facet. Don’t think anyone expected this out of him, and he will just get better.

His ability to break defenses down off the dribble is so vital in our offense. He was just making stuff happen in the last 10 minutes of the game, taking his man ISO and forcing contact on his drives.
