never found the schrodingerās cat thought experiment to be as mind blowing as itās made out to be. I mean the cat is either dead or itās alive, regardless of whether we observe it.
edit: apologize if this leads to a discussion o quantum mechanics. But what could be more fun?
This happened to me once. I waved to signal that the other driver could turn in front of me. I wrongly assumed that he would inch forward to see if there was oncoming traffic in the lane next to me.
I canāt find any of his AAU stats, I think he was playing for an Iowa team in the UA Rise circuit (the second level of UAās 17U division, same one Blake played in). I think he did play some for D1 Minnesota on the Adidas circuit earlier in the spring, stats didnāt really stand out.
Itās all about the match-ups. As long as the roster affords the staff the ability to adjust, almost any recruit Virginia is pursuing is fine, if not great. Last year, one of the problems, IMO, was that Virginiaās roster lacked the versatility to react to every contingency. Especially, in the paint. On paper, as of now, the 2026 squad appears much more balanced so the addition of McCaffery shouldnāt be a concern.
I just want a guaranteed scoring punch in the front court. Donāt care if itās a McCaffrey stretching the floor (though thatās preferable) or a mean interior scorer like Ward.
Yep, Iām tired of running Blocker-Mover with forwards that can shoot setting screens for guards that canāt.
Itās why I wish we got back to prioritizing shooting in guards and length/athleticism in forwards. I have more faith in a path to success with that talent profile in similar systems than betting on Tony radically changing systems.
Iād love a gill, but Iād take any scoring in the front court. Shooter would be preferable with hope that one or more of BB Arob and Cofie can score inside
I think that BB is going to develop into a scorer. Robinson seems like a lob/dunker. We donāt know what Cofi will turn into offensively. I am really excited about his potential if he sticks around but I question how much he contributes this year. Power and Saunders can shoot and will have to settle into 3/4 roles. I just think that our 2025 forward needs to be able to play 3 and shoot 3ās.
And as time has gone by, Iāve become more curmudgeonly re shooting in the front court. I just donāt care about it much anymore. After years of Hauser, Huff, BVP, Igor, Taine, Groves, etc I just donāt buy that weāre going to make it work. The defense has been largely mediocre by our standards, and the shooting from the front court meant to make the trade off worth it always seems to be taken away by opponents too easily when it matters most.
You just canāt replace guards shooting with front court shooting. They are not equal. Having both could work probably so Iām not like one hundred percent against having a stretch four on the roster but all I personally care about is backcourt and some wing shooting. And I worry Tony has become a little over enamored with making a stretch four happen.
To be fair though, McCaffery also has some length and bounce to him. I actually like McCaffery a lot.
I am not a fan of adding JJ Mandaquit when we already have Dai Dai and Bliss and need McKneelyās heir apparent. Last thing we need is another ball dominant guard who is not so great off ball (Bliss actually shoots well from 3 going off HS and AAU stats so maybe they view him as the 2?). Would rather Dixon or Able but realize they will be hard to get.
While I wouldnāt necessarily bet large sums of $ on it, do have a hunch Sharma will be better than his ranking, and have a role going into 2025-26. Enough to be IMacās replacement? Not sure yet, but maybe.
