Yeah, Iām not falling for this one again. Duke or Kentucky until we hear otherwise.
Even if dook doesnāt like him, he will just stash him until he transfers just so their competitor (UVA) doesnāt land him.
The Duke comments make it sound like he really doesnāt want to go thereā¦ mentions coachās and staff relations for essentially everyone else and dukes is basically yeah, theyāre good and have had good players. But who knows, Keels was rolling his eyes on live streams when someone mentioned Duke 3 weeks before he committed soā¦?
Itās why āThe Brotherhoodā talk always comes across as incredibly superficial. With talents like Flagg or Malauch or Ament, committing to Dook is more often than not a business decision.
Unfortunately but understandably, as the names indicate, the safer business decision usually wins. Canāt imagine making decisions about generational money at 18.
This weird narrative is one of the dumbest on the board. Duke, with their national title aspirations, would intentionally undermine those aspirations by using a scholarship on an inferior player, just so they can keep that inferior player from going to a program that realistically does not impede their path to a national title?
Or maybe guys like Power or Kon or Maliq were the best talent for the scholarship available.
Also this may have been more believable from ā14-ā19. But frankly since the national championship, are we really a threat to Duke? We used to be, but we are not currently imo. Goal is to become that again.
Well, the numbers tell a slightly different story, but stats are just that: stats. Since 2019, Virginia is 68-29 in conference games while Duke is 69-29. Head to head, in regular season games Virginia is 3-3 against Duke, but Duke is 1-0 against UVa in the ACCT. Additionally, Virginia, since the NCAA championship, has finished 1st, tied for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 6th. Admittedly, last yearās results might be coloring peopleās thoughts about this, but Virginia isnāt doing all that badly.
The semesterhood
Watching Acaden Lewis in UA Elite 24. Future AA. We missed a great one.
Marcus Jackson has size and legit hops. Just hit a 3.
Before this last season we won the ACC again, and took them to the ACC championship so YES we are still a threat.
@HoozGotNext : Just a bit curious. Was Nate Amentās previous visit to UVa an OV? Has he visited more than once? Is he likely to visit again? Finally, how likely is it that he puts off his decision until spring?
Iām sorry but āweāre a threat to Dukeā is currently delusional. We arenāt a nationally relevant basketball program right now. Duke is nationally relevant. Programs like Kentucky, Baylor, UConn etc. are threats to Duke. Just because we beat up on the Miamis and Boston Colleges of the world does not make us a threat to Duke lmao. Beating Duke is nice and I love it.
If we can get back to 2014-2019 levels of basketball, then we will be a threat again. But Duke is not worried about a program that gets smoked by Colorado State in Dayton
Like Duke doesnāt give a damn about regular season ACC titles. They care about the games that the rest of the country cares about. The reason we were a threat from 2014-2019 is that we could win a national title
Yeah, I actually really value our regular season success and donāt think the sport is solely about the post season, but using just regular season win-loss records to say weāve been close to Dukeās level the last several years is just not providing a full picture. Since 2019:
UVA:
- 110-47 record
- 2 regular season ACC titles
- 0 ACC tournament titles
- 0 NCAA wins
- End of year Torvik rankings of 34, 21, 59, 34, 62
Duke:
- 124-42 record
- 1 regular season ACC title
- 1 ACC tournament title
- 1 Final Four, 1 Elite Eight, 1 Round of 32
- End of year Torvik rankings of 6, 32, 6, 15, 8
That post season success isnāt even close. And the average Torvik rank for them over this period has been 13.4 while ours has been 42 - so again, not really close. Yes, we have done a good job of more consistently beating up on a middling ACC during the regular season while their teams have taken longer to gel, but thatās about it. We havenāt been close to the level we were from 2014-2019.
Thatās 9.95 protected information haha. Nahā¦He hasnāt taken any official visits yet. Heās been to UVA several times just for games and such. If heās going to pick UVA, heāll sign in November. Maybe he signs late but if so it wonāt be relevant for us.
Thanks. Among other things, I am unsure why a highly touted prospect would commit before spring given the current nature of college basketball. Before the new transfer portal rules, I could understand that a recruit might think that if he waited too long, a scholarship wouldnāt be available at his first choice. With close to 2,000 players entering the portal every spring, has there been any school in Division 1 which didnāt have openings in April? Now, a recruit can wait to see which coaching changes take place, what roster changes occur, and they can also get a better idea of the paths to playing time, if thatās a concern. Then, again, Iāve had difficulty understanding why any recruit ever signs a LOI. It isnāt required, and it offers no advantages to the player. Only the school receives any benefits.
Lastly, wasnāt Amentās trip to Duke an official visit?
Because a player like Ament is not concerned with a portal player in front of him.
