šŸ€ High School Recruiting - Summer 2024

That’s sort of my point. He doesn’t have to worry about a space being unavailable. There will be scholarships available in April regardless of whichever school he wants to attend. And, while he doesn’t have to worry about anyone in front of him, he might be a tad interested to know with whom he will be playing. That can change significantly between November and May. NCAA basketball has become a volatile world.

If there’s a time to get out the NIL brinks truck this is it

I got my hopes up so high for Kon, that I cannot put my heart through this again.

(I am heavily invested and convinced that this one will be different)

Before we even get got to the hard-to-know ā€œwhat does Ament want?ā€ question, I wonder if this is gonna be a a 7-figure or close to it, recruitment. And if so, can we pay? will we pay?

If he were like a 30-50 recruit, I’d get some comfort being the in-state school at position we are strong in.

But top 5? Lottery trajectory (or better)? I dunno…

I I understand it correctly, NIL is about to change. I am unsure when the changes will be implemented, but part of the recent court settlement (House vs NCAA?), either the court, or a body it creates, will determine if an NIL contract represents market value. If not, it will be nullified. And, that is market value for Name, Image, & Likeness. At any rate, such a determination will not be in the hands of the NCAA, which means it might even be effective. Of course, I may have misunderstood the whole thing, too.

Yeah, unless he just truly loves UVA and feels like he can make NIL bank by staying in his home state I don’t see how this recruitment is trending positively at all. This isn’t our type of recruitment.

But there’s always a first for everything I guess. And given current roster construction there’s no harm in pursuing to the end.

It’s all very preliminary. The court hasn’t even approved the settlement yet

Just off the dome, it seems possible (likely?) that Ament’s recruitment plays out under the current ā€œrulesā€

I certainly don’t have my hopes up regarding Ament, but we don’t have a ton else to pay attention to right now, so I’m just having fun with us being in the mix.

I also appreciate us pursuing him. It’s a hard sell to our usual targets because of log jams on the roster, so pursue the two best forward who will listen and show interest.

Also is this the highest ranked recruit who’s shown legit interest in us? The only others I can think of are Michael Porter Jr. and maybe Cade Cunningham??

Is there an article I can read on this? I’d be curious how they determine ā€œmarket valueā€ for someone’s name image and likeness….

It’s all very TBD. Just speculation mostly

CBS article

A lawyer named Mit Winter tweets on it a lot.

Most recent buzz is about some high profile challenges to the settlement.

Still think it’s hilarious that there is a non zero chance (If Kon doesn’t go pro) Duke’s starting lineup two years from now is:

Acaden lewis
Caleb foster
Kon Knueppel
Nate Ament
Maliq Brown

with Virginia natives Darren Harris and Pat Ngongba off the bench.

Adrien Stevens to Marquette tomorrow. Makes sense. Shaka was somehow literally at every Bullis game.

Aren’t they full? And they are a program that barely loses people, at least recently.

The current settlement was a wishlist from the NCAA, I think the odds of it going through as is are basically zero.

No idea, just a rivals crystal ball in and a trilly prediction.

If that’s the case, wouldn’t be surprised to see him randomly land at Georgetown after a late push from their staff to keep the DC kids momentum.

No shot we land Ament but man, Ament + Third year TJ Power + Fourth year Saunders + Second year Cofie would be a hell of a forward rotation.

No idea what the article says (behind paywall) but the photo includes 4 kids who all have UVA offers (Able, Dixon, Mullins, and Darius Adams who we offered last summer but never followed up on)
