Hoos Going Pro 2021-22 NBA Season

Seriously. I have no idea why Kidd got hired. I mean it’s one game, so who knows, maybe he’ll turn it around, but always felt like a dumb move.

His main job was gaurding Luka tonight. They ran tons of stuff for him last season.

Hunter was a beast on defense. Having his hands full with Luka and freash off the knee injury I’m not surprised they had him spot up from the outside on offense. I’d expect his role to grow and expand as the season rolls on. He’ll likely always have a somewhat limited role on offense with Trey being the focus and the rim runners being the next set of options with Dre and co taking advantage of the defenses reactions to all the movement

Chuck on the post-game: “Kenny talks about Reddish. To me, I think De’Andre Hunter is the guy…”

I watched some of that game last night. If you are a fan of defense then Hunters game last night was a thing of beauty. Absolutely amazing in my inexperienced eyes. He worked his ‘you know what’ off.

At first it was frustrating offense wise because he wasn’t getting the ball. Was that on purpose to maybe let him rest a bit?

Maybe a little bit of rest, but more of the Hawks still working on plugging him into the offense. Despite improved numbers last season he would have games where he didn’t get many looks, and with the time out he never got the reps he needed to get into the flow. As I mentioned above I think Hunter will always be more of a catch and shoot option for the Hawks with occasional opportunities to set up his own shot. 1) Creating off the bounce is not his strong suit. and 2) with Trey on the court and 2 rim running bigs in Capella and Collins, there’s not a lot of space in the middle and the pick - n - roll with Trey’s threat to pull up from deep or hit the floater will always be the No.1 option. Some pick - n - pop action with Hunter would be a fun wrinkle to see them develop as the season continues.

Woah, sorry man. I totally missed your post. Sorry to the forum for the redundancy.

Thats just unreal effort combined with having a great defensive coach somewhere along the way. Also having length helps ha

He’s definitely “continuous” with defensive effort, which TB preaches pretty much any time he talks about defense to the media. But the length helps him do things to make his life slightly easier, like going under the screen but still being able to contest the shot, or making plays while on the offensive guy’s hip, which is usually a tough spot to be as a defender.

Yep. Great poing on continous. Players that can recover and make plays from behind on D are next level. Reminds me of Cornell Parker on our teams

Cornell was a tremendous defensive player, as was Harold Deane on that 1994 team. But I remember vividly when that team played Arizona in Sacramento (NCAA 2nd Round). I was part of the UVA crowd taunting the Arizona guards that they couldn’t score against Parker/Deane. Damon Stoudamire and Khalid Rheeves put up a combined 50 and shut us up pretty hard. Crow eaten.

The thing about the Hawks are that they are REALLY deep with young and talented players that were quality players in college and have above average upside in the pros!

Their veterans Gallinari and Lou Williams didn’t even play. I’m not sure if I saw Onyeku play either? But they’ve drafted a talented player in Jalen Johnson, and Sharife Cooper (both big names last year), plus they signed that long point guard from Utah (Edit: Delon Wright), and all of these guys *could be getting MANY more minutes elsewhere but are solid BENCH players on the Hawks.

Trae is the *big name along with stars like John Collins, and a SOLID Clint Capela, BUT that second group of 5-7 players are not that big of a fall off, and there is still growth potential for their dookie players Jalen “Junkson” and Cam “Rubbish” (Yeah I hate dook).

Great point. The Hawks are a very deep team. It saved them last year when injuries hit at the mid point of the season. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them lean on the depth again this season. They also have the ability to play a lot of different styles of basketball if they want. That could make for interesting matchups.

For all the recruits we compare to Dre, just show them this 2.5 min video, and say this is what we think you can do to the best players in the world

Doesn’t affect any Hoos currently but looks like a bomb is about to drop on the Phoenix Suns

About 18-20 seconds into the video - how close was #7 to a moving screen or is that not a thing any more?

NBA has decided that unless you throw an elbow into someone’s chest or stick your hip out to trip someone, they don’t call illegal screens anymore.
