How in the world did the Thunder come back and win that saw the score and they were down by 20 in the 2nd and Ty was glued to the bench so I didn’t flip it on.
5-11 tonight won’t hurt. Of course they still lost lol
Well, that’s from three. Overall was 5-15, and coming into tonight was just 14-41 for 34.1% overall and 34.5% from three. He’s just in a mini slump, but he’ll be fine. Just was hoping he’d start a little hotter so he could shake off the end of the year last year.
Oh with Joe I legitimately don’t think I’ve ever looked at his overall FG% lol not in college nor the NBA
Sixers fans did a thing like this last season with Ben Simmons, it was called the Benitentiary if I remember correctly. Also the Wizards with Rui Hachimura’s list of victims. They’re hilarious.
After watching the sixers game yesterday, I am even more on the “Leon Bond is a Matisse Thybulle clone” ship.
Same height and wingspan but also same body movement. Doesn’t give up on defense if stuck on a screen
Yes, very similar profile. Funny that on 247 he was a 6’7" prospect out of high school but now is only 6’5".
We should steal that. “Pack Line puts UNC in the Bennettentiary.”
If Leon Bond is half of the defensive playmaker Matisse Thybulle is, we’ll be very lucky to have him. I’ve seen point-of-attack defenders more effective than Thybulle but he might be the best player at deflecting passes, intercepting passes, reaching & poking out dribbles, and blocking jump shots I’ve ever seen. The length/wingspan/height/build is definitely similar between Bond and Thybulle, though, so I can definitely see the comparison.
Wow! At first I was like he isn’t on the graph but then finally saw the upper right corner. Jeez Louise.
Not to belabor the “Thybulle is really good” point, but I was curious how he’s been doing this season, since anecdotally I remembered a lot of impressive defensive plays from the Sixers games I’ve watched. Here’s the same chart as last time, except this time with all players, not just guards.
Turns out he ranks fourth in the entire league in block percentage as a shooting guard, above Rudy Gobert, Embiid, Giannis, etc. And leads the league in steal percentage. Unreal player.
I always like to backcheck statistical output to see if it passes the eye test. So I’m looking at that graph to see where known terrific defenders fall. Where is Dre Hunter? Did I miss him?
I feel like the knock on Hunter coming out of college that despite his defensive reputation and size, he didn’t produce that many steals or blocks.
I’m not a stat geek so can’t say how much that matters but I agree he passes the eye test.
Edit: Hunter is 0.2% for both block and steal percentage. Which is about what he’s been for his career in the NBA.
Edit2: Would be interesting if it somehow factored in who the player was guarding. But that’s probably impossible. Makes sense if block rate is low when you’re matched up on Lebron, Luka, etc.
Yeah, that was a subject of discussion among draftniks. Was he really good on defense if he didn’t have high numbers on blocks and steals? Seems like he’s answered those criticisms. What Dre brings on D is harder to measure but is super important, especially when you need to slow down the other team’s best player in a playoff series.
How stupid. What difference does it make if you prevent the offense from scoring and get the ball back through a steal, block or a good ol’ fashioned stop?
Thats the key. Making stop and getting the ball back. Not all blocks go to the defense. Old school guys like Russel etc were great at controling the blocks. Steals by definition you get
