šŸ€ Hoos in the NBA 2024-25

Yes, and if we’re counting guys like Kessler who left for other schools, before the NBA, that number could also be higher?

I wish Tony had slipped that into his going away presser randomly. ā€œIt’s been so wonderful and I am sad to say goodbye. Especially now that Virginia has more players in the NBA than Carolina. I did that. Me. Wild… Anyway, I love you all - God bless.ā€

The bulls just went on a like 20-0 run on Jay Huff d. That was really hard to watch

But then just made a 3

Tony would have yanked him after the run grew to 4-0

What was the take? For me was kinda simple

Take was that Dunn’s mechanics are largely the same as at UVA, maybe a little cleaner, and that he’s probably thinking less when he shoots now.

What AQ said. Also, he led all rooks in made 3s, through Sunday’s games.

We’ve seen these kinds of efforts before:

Ryan Dunn might singlehandedly change the way the NBA teams value defense. Seriously. The way I’ve heard it explained they basically don’t believe in the idea of shutdown defenders…they only value versatility, not necessary quality. Because the idea of a guy who can shut down elite NBA players was a falsehood. Until our guy showed up…

Because the NBA switches almost everything, it’s thought that it doesn’t matter if you have a lockdown defender, offenses will just ball screen you into switches to get the matchups they want against weaker defenders. So it’s more important to have a high floor as a defender, AKA not be the worst guy out there, than to have a high ceiling. It’s a ā€œweakest linkā€ thought process. Would love to see Dunn change that.

Welcome to the Dunngeon is so badass.

It’s a real shame we were too high on Top Dunn because he could fly.

that’s it exactly. Watching the Suns vs Clippers game, they kept putting Dunn in ball screens with Harden, sometimes it took 2-3 tries, to get that switch. Was funny really…hell of a compliment to him. He was the only guy who could bother Harden, everybody else got eaten up.

There’s still some level of offensive floor that a guy needs to be playoff playable. I don’t know how to compare Matisse Thybulle to Ryan Dunn, but Thybulle might’ve been the best perimeter defender in the league 3-4 years ago, but he couldn’t stay on the floor because teams didn’t defend him and it clogged up the lane for Embiid.
