šŸ€ Hoos in the Pros 2023-24

I love Trey Murphy. And his NBA success makes it easier to follow this… but let’s not forget those numbers at UVA were in empty or maybe 25% capacity gyms…

Kyle Guy was hushing the crowds of the Carrier Dome as a freshman… he’s the best UVA shooter honestly I think ever.

Was Guy the even the best shooter on the 2019 team?
Probably best shooter on contested threes.
And on Free throws when down by 2 needing to make 3 to win
2 other guys shot 50% from three that year in Acc play and were consistently better from 2 as well.

Kyle could get his shot off from anywhere because he could turn and square while elevating in one fluid motion. Could literally anyone else do that? Haha I don’t think it’s really that close.

Add to clarify: if you’re just arguing stats, sure, he isn’t #1. But if you’re arguing just straight up best shooter I don’t see how you could pick anyone else. Taking into account everything that goes into it… defensive focus, ability and willingness to shoot, shot volume and offensive need… plus making a ton of shots. I see this as a more than just numbers debate. Unless it isn’t :man_shrugging:t2:

I think the bottom line is that there really weren’t that many great shooters at Uva that developed here using the ā€œArc-Angel machineā€ or whatever it’s called unless they came in as shooters already. I can’t name one…

Only 2 maybe were Hall and Brogdon

Kyle had the best trigger I’ve seen in a generation at UVA, lightning fast, squaring and elevating with great accuracy to the point that his size was rarely an issue.

It that’s the standard we’re using, then Grant Kersey is underwhelmed.

Yeah the degree of difficulty on some of Kyle’s shots is insane. Kinda crazy to think with that in mind how close to the top %’s he was able to stay… a decent number of his shots wouldn’t have even been options for any other players.

My point is our fanbase puts wayyyyy too much emphasis on NOAH as an issue of the program. Its main purpose is as an analytics feedback machine and it’s used by the vast majority of D1 and NBA teams.

In broad terms, I think this might be true for most programs? Not saying guys can’t improve, but the great ones tend to show their greatness ahead of college.

I’m open to counter-examples though that are more than just the exception to the rule.

Also overrated how much coaches themselves can do about someone’s shooting ability. (Schemes to match shooting styles and capabilities, yes …. Overall shooting ability, way less so)

First time in a while I’ve watched regular ESPN programming for more than a minute. When did it turn into one big sports betting promotion?

Malcolm & AG reunited?

Aside from potentially starting next year, that’s a really rough landing spot for Malc. The Wizards’ roster is in a terrible position. Not that Portland was much better but they’ve got some young talent at least.

Probably want Malcolm as a veteran lockeroom presence with these young guys they’ll be bringing in/building around.

Kyle must have learned to shoot against bazar opstacles growing up. He cocked it back over his head like Larry Bird but no extreme arc. Just daggers. Like you said, I dont think I have ever seen any shooter similar

He is proly the Guy that cant believe when he misses one

I’m going to assume it’s during the day to avoid conflict with the presidential debate. Maybe.

Probably right. But also sucks for Malcolm. I’m a Zards fan but that team is not serious about basketball. Malcolm needs to find himself in a Mike Conoly situation not daycare teacher
