I agree, I looked into his defensive stats last week and was legit shocked at the numbers. I always assumed he was a lockdown switchblade and it’s just not the case. His upside on the court has been his ability to get hot on the offensive end.
@MaineWahoo while the tactic for judging may be a bit wonky you are accurate on your assessment. Dre boils down to a somewhat streaky scorer and a mid-level offensive weapon, but honestly you can find a lot of other players who fill the same role and do better at at it.
Someone was asking the other day when “stocks” became a hoops term. The first time I remember hearing it was in Dre’s draft chatter. He was known as a great college defender, but was very low on stocks. A lot of the counter at the time was that UVa’s defensive style didn’t really encourage stocks, but Reece and Dunn have kinda undercut that a bit.
I think it’s almost all injury-related. I like using DARKO for a rough all-in-one player impact metric (because it’s freely available too; DARKO Exploration), and it has him bouncing back to trend positively offensively even after the 2021 knee injury, while the defense trend was going promisingly and the reversed course after that injury.
Yup that makes sense. I also imagine that the post injury look matches up with Dre moving from 3 to the 4 in a lot of their lineups. It makes sense that he moved down as he lost some lateral movement after the injury but, he’s also not a lockdown defender in the post. Almost stuck between positions thanks to the injury.
Funny mix of mostly promising young players, and then Nigel Hayes and Micah Potter for some reason? Is there a Wisconsin alum on the USA basketball staff?
Langston Galloway is the other random vet on there, but he has been a good foot soldier for USA Basketball, helping them qualify for tournaments during times when NBA players aren’t available to be selected, so I assume he’s there for that reason.
Hoos related bc of Dre and Trey, but apparently Dejounte Murray is heading to the Pels for Larry Nance Jr, Dyson Daniels, and 2025 / 2027 first round picks
As a Pels fan, LOVE it. Get a young G, cheaper than Ingram, who we can now move, Trey moves into the starting lineup, and McCollum can come off the bench as 6th man.
Hollinger in The Athletic…" Of course, I say all this as if the Hawks are done dealing. Are they? Clint Capela and De’Andre Hunter rumors have subsisted for ages, but the general consensus from league sources is that the Hawks can’t get any meaningful return for them."
Feel like in the 60s/70s Sam would be a guy that would be with a Boston for 12 years but somehow still having to work a real job in the offseason and bartending gigs during home stands to make ends meet.
