In-season Basketball Recruiting 2022-2023

Man I love his skillset. There has to be space on our roster for a 4 year player like this.

@Hooandtrue Just heard J-Willy say he was just in NC. Maybe there’s a chance?

Not the best game to host recruits Maryland.

@HoozGotNext we got a list of possible visitors for the Houston game?

Nah…I’d guess Stevenson and/or Caleb Williams. It’s a busy weekend for high school tourneys, most will be busy.

Late night offer. I mentioned in the other thread I had heard they were really impressed by him this past weekend. 2024 Paul VI big man. He’s the cousin of Isaiah Abraham, who also holds an offer, so definite package deal potential.

Described by On3 as a broad shouldered big man who is a good rebounder that has range beyond the 3 point line. I’ll take two please.

I agree! I really want this guy!

I think him or Sorber would be really nice to pair with Buchanan and Traudt

While I’d love to get both, I refuse to get my hopes up with a Paul VI kid until the commitment letter is signed.

This seems like a classic CTB trying to get in front of the pack offer, although he shows offers from Georgetown, Iowa, KSU and a few others

Fardaws Aimaq IS eligible to play this season, a source told

@Stockrisers

. Yes, he can transfer and play right away, this season… Major news for whatever program lands him. Getting an All-American caliber big man in Aimaq.

Here’s the tweet:

That’s interesting, but here’s how I’m choosing to read that: ā€œFardaws Aimaq told Jake Weingarten that he is eligible to transfer and play this season.ā€ Okay, great, but query whether either of those two know what they’re talking about. Color me skeptical.

Is there a loophole that says if you transfer but get hurt, and don’t play at all, you get another free waiver? Not that I’m aware of, but I suppose it’s possible.

Could he apply for and get a waiver in-season / in between semesters? Again, I suppose the answer is maybe, but I’m not sure.

Until we learn more, I’m choosing to read this as one kid (Aimaq) telling another kid (Weingarten) something without either one of the kids really thinking through the details/process of how that would happen. (Which, by the way, doesn’t mean they’re wrong.)

I mean, look, I’m not saying we need Woodward and Bernstein on the transfer recruiting beat, but did, like, Jake think to ask, ā€œOk, cool, but how?ā€

Or more likely, did he text/DM Aimaq ā€œYo, can you play this year if you transfer?ā€ and Aimaq replied :100: and then Jake tweeted it out a couple seconds later.

I think I’m getting old…

It’s not unprecedented. One of our best women’s players did it last season. Despite the article saying McClean would have to sit out, she got a waiver in January and played in 11 games for us last season.

Interesting, thanks. So I guess the answer is that he’s not eligible but might get another waiver to play in some games this year, come January.

It’s still possible he’s eligible. McClean even played a few minutes for UCONN which is probably why the waiver was necessary.

I think these mid year transfers are rare enough that each one is basically a special case where the particulars of the situation have to get examined. But maybe you can view that as default ineligible until cleared? And that may be a fair way to look at it.

Anyone remember how it went down with KT Harrell and James Johnson when they left the team at semester break?
