In-season Basketball Recruiting 2022-2023

Damn, heal up young buck. We may really need him day 1 if things break a certain way

Ouch. Getting Dante as another 2-3 yr guard makes more sense. Wouldn’t expect Gertrude to be effective next year off that injury, and if he redshirts, that’ll be 2 years without competition.

Happened in maybe early November when they were playing Dematha in south jersey at some event. He has a great Dr (Nets guy) and getting top notch care and rehab etc. of course they will be in touch with our training staff and Mike as well I am sure.

Should be ready to go by the season and he cant wait to get to Cville whenever thats allowed

We good fam!

Hey Doug Next time you are on with Williford, could you ask if he thinks the NCAA should allow X amount of games for a kid to play before redshirting in basketball? I think football has a 4 game cutoff.

For sure I will. Thanks dude

Thanks Doug.

Yes, 4 games is the cutoff for football. And they recently announced that this season that playing in a bowl game won’t count against the 4. That’s a deviation from prior seasons and sounded like it was for just this season but with the NCAA everything is always subject to change.

Thats cool so that redshirts can go ahead and play a bowl game leading into spring practice

Also seems good because if more and more juniors and seniors opt out of bowl games before going pro, helps teams fill in those gaps. And it’s great experience for the younger players.

Colt Langdon Highlights. Also Wilson put out an interview with him today. I knew there was a parent connection, his dad is a former UVA football player. I remember hearing that from someone else a while ago but could never verify it.

Got it. Got the timeline messed up but that’s just me spreading my false narratives. Could you expect anything else?

More seriously; I wouldn’t call it a blessing in disguise because no acl tear is always preferable to acl tear, but making the most of this situation we are going to get a hungrier Elijah Gertrude after being out a year and we are going to get a more analytical Elijah as he spends more time on the sideline watching the games

That’s the silver lining. Too bad he doesn’t get a senior season though and that he will miss that development time.

I think this is exactly right. I spoke to his dad recently and thats the mindset. Get better at things he can get better at without having to jump over the backboard (so to speak). They played so so so much this spring summer fall so it is kinda too bad. But he will use it to his overall development and be ready for college

No big deal on the timing ha. I couldnt say anything earlier cause I didnt think it was right to ā€œbreakā€ it here. Am sure you already heard somethin somewhere though

Saw that Juke Harris is visiting Hokies for their February 3rd game against us. The smoke of him ending up at Virginia Tech grows. Juke Harris as the guard wing and AJ Swinton as the forward wing would be a hell of a get for the hokies.

Doug-
OT from UVa recruiting, but did you cross paths with Curtis Blair from UR in your playing days? Checked out a game tonight where his son played (Curtis helps coach at Steward School in Richmond). Solid prospect…he’s committed to Ritchie McKay at Liberty. Probably the right level for him to get PT…fundamentally sound, good defender. Not a supreme athlete, but good enough.

Oh I definitely remember Curtis Blair. He was big time. Didnt he always wear that knee brace? For some reason I think he was either just older or just younger than me but knew of him and am sure we met at some point

Awesome knews on his son It is so cool to hear how many kids of our guys are comin up and getting scholarship to play ball now. Special

He was drafted in ā€˜92 by the Rockets. Pretty sure he still officiates NBA games…he has/did for awhile.

Thats right. He was actually a really strong guard and big scorer. Damn I mustve guarded him some. We only played Richmond my first year I think in the Richmond Times Dispatch tourney

Well regardless of whether you wanted him or not it’s over now.

Is there actually smoke that he ends up a Hokie or just that he’s visiting? Lotta good teams in the running for him I’d still be shocked if he ends up in Blacksburg
