Look at how Tony treated Reece (welcome mat always here) vs how Forbes treated Bobi and for goodness sake, Bobi’s mom, during the lead-up to the draft. I hope it felt good in the moment for Forbes to go Once upon a time in Hollywood flamethrower style…
A taller iMAC or a shorter Jake Groves?
a taller IMAC for sure. The steal of the 24 class.
that’s a pure stroke. he’ll be good for us.
Looks great… but how many did he miss? How does he do running through screens and double screens? Why don’t they ever show that on the clips???
Yeah he looks a bit more athletic and faster than in earlier vidoes (from a year or two ago). If he can be a taller iMAC then that would be amazing. His shot “looks” more like Groves to me and his handle is aggressive like Groves as well but a little bit better since he’s a guard. I imagine is athleticism is more like Groves too however if he can defend then he will play some next year.
Are we not gonna mention the blue and orange shoe fire!?!?
yup.
In my mind he’s a 6’6 Jacob Groves. higher ceiling as a shooter maybe (more mobile, kid can really run off screens).
Dont think he has shown anything in his current bag of what McKneely is doing inside with the floaters and using his body bumps to get space on mid range jumpers.
Lets see who comes back. Very crowded perimeter as it projects today. Lots of overlap positionally and skill wise with iMac, Rohde, and Taine for next year, plus Bond and Gertrude also in the mix with arguably better defense, athleticism, interior offense, and of course more system experience.
Only so many minutes to go around. Hell, it was going to be a potential issue for Kon for that same spot, definitely will be for Sharma for probably his first two years unless there’s more attrition than expected. RS next season, step into Taine’s role as a RS Freshman, then compete to start as a RS Sophomore when iMac and Rohde have graduated and we need size and shooting at the 2/3.
Also like how he isnt afraid of contact and knows how to use it to make space.
I don’t understand the comparison to Groves at all. Groves is a spot-up jump shooter. Sharma looks like he can spot up, pull up or step back. And he gets much more elevation than Groves (but not as much as iMac).
Don’t know if he can shoot the floater or drive inside – but, in fairness, iMac really couldn’t either when he first got here.
McKneely showed a lot of playmaking in HS and AAU. Used to dunk on people too. Sharma can shoot the hell out of the ball but I’m not getting excited for more than Woldy+
I’m gearing up for the “Sharma should play over Rohde” debates next season. I can already smell it brewing.
I said his shot “looks” like Groves- I quoted the word looks because I wanted to emphasize the appearance.
I also mentioned that he has an aggressive “drive” like Groves, meaning that his body language/gait reminded me a bit of him, meaning that it may *not be a strength at the moment but since he’s a guard I imagine it will get better.
I mention iMAC because of the efficiency and being able to score off of the bounce which is what we’re seeing from iMAC more recently.
With that said we have *not seen a floater yet, but he definitely has enough touch to make it happen at some point over the next 5(?) years.
Woldetensae was a microwave for us as a *starter, so I’m okay with that. Although I think that Ishan may have a slightly better handle.
He was at times but was very limited and had insane cold streaks. I’ll cut him slack though, it’s hard to be the only shooter in your back court
McKneely showed a lot of this in his aau and high school games. That’s why my initial player comp wasn’t guy but Brogdon. I think McKneely has a lot more to his game that will show once he becomes even more comfortable and adjusted to the college game (my favorite part of player development is when a player starts to look like their high school senior season in college).
His shot release is a lot like groves. Groves also has pull up and step back potential.
None of Sharma’s showings and games Ive watched lead me to believe he will be someone who can attack the rim at all, even on a closeout. But I love how he hunts his shot and he can really fly off a screen.
I think the Woldo/Hunter Catoor comparisons are apt. Possibly a higher ceiling version but even if not, someone who is a need in a spot on the roster.
People forget Woldo also had a procedure done preseason. Could be why he was going on a heater to end the season during our win streak.
No Woldo slander on this board!
