The question is, can the elite hand-eye coordination and skill needed to be that elite of a shooter translate to some other skills. For example, can he develop a nasty floater or dribble

Irrelevant as long as he’s a DAWG! . . . I miss Tu.

Oh, yeah. Honestly, I think his shot is superb, there was just a segment of the video where it had multiple clips in a row of him sinking shots from a step inside the 3pt line and I’m like “Oh, c’mon”.

Agree with Haney that while he had a few really nice passes in the video, he also had a few that would 100% have been picked off in college and saying he has “high level ball handling” is overstating it. Higher ceiling, less athletic Woldo sounds spot-on.

I also just think “ability to make reads as a secondary ball handler” is kind of like saying, he’s able to make a pass. Lol! And I say this as someone who kinda likes hoops lingo.

I think this guy maybe projects as a mid-major starter somewhere down the line. Not P5 reserve quality without a lot of improvement.

High school shooting numbers look good - that doesn’t translate to the next level in my opinion. Game is going to be too fast for him. Recall that Carson shot 50%+ from 3pt in HS.

Does it hurt the recruiting space? Probably not but I’ve been on record saying I’d rather have a guy in practice with more athleticism or capable to beet off the dribble to push the starters/bench.

Carson also had a super slow release without much elevation. A shot that worked for Larry bird because he was 6’7” and not 6’3

Yes yes. Only Bird was 6-10

Point being Carson shot like a stretch 4 and not a SG

Well, it’s more than just HS with this guy. 45% on high volume in AAU summer leagues is far better than doing it against regular HS competition.

Guess we’ll see how it translates.

I think a point that many forget, especially me, in this age of NIL and instant transfers is that kids were supposed to not be finished products day 1 and develop over time/over their 4 years.

Is it though? Kid is proven against as good high school competition as you would want (FIBA, american hs tours, peach jam). If anything the game here at UVA is going to be much much slower for him

He seems like a great shooter, but I do worry a little bit about the Peach Pit competition**. He was in JV EYBL and then Peach Pit. At least TJP had the varsity EYBL stats to to on. (but in general, I think the shot will translate, but who knows)

** never mind - see below

No he was Peach Jam. EYCL champions automatically qualified for peach jam. Not PIT.

Ah, my bad. Never mind, then

Dude, I’ve never gotten over it. I was listening to some random hoops pod saying that Tre Norman could be good (Marquette?) and I almost threw my phone

Also, @DFresh11 I was about to say that it was Saved by the Bell, not 90210, but I was getting mixed up. They were basically the same show in my muddled brain

I think he was in older, edgier version: Peach Pit After Dark.

Edit - Fresh beat me to it with the 90210 reference.

One “actress” was in both so…

I hate that I get this reference.

Who? That’s a real deep 90s knowledge trivia question.
