⛹ Jalen Warley - Official Thread

I’m having fun with this. I enjoy talking UVA basketball. If you can’t deal with minor disagreements in good humor, that’s on you. I always enjoy bantering with you, but you don’t have to say junk like that when somebody disagrees.

But ok, you didn’t mean the 9/20 thing. I got you!

??? What? We aren’t disagreeing?

You’re the one who misinterpreted. That wasn’t a serious comment. I literally said “more seriously” in that same comment.

Take a deep breathe LOL. No one is saying Warley is a good shooter. It’s just exhausting cause we are just accepting what is.

We’ll see what happens. Anyways its a rainy Saturday. So onto Perry’s commitment

But with his size you can play more 4 guard lineups because he’s equipped to defend 1-4… just need 3 capable shooters on the court.

Edited. Anyway, have a good one man.

We need to get out of this circular conversation.

Haven’t seen anyone map Warley to the five pillars. How does he stack up? Need an analysis STAT

Definitely checks all the boxes.
Plus defender
Handles the rock
Can’t shoot a lick

If something crazy happened and we didn’t add another player, I think I’d go with a starting 5 of Warley, IMac, Eli, Murray & BB. 2 shooters, 2 plus athletes and a big.

I really think the key that we’ve been missing offensively is not having a PG that can shoot from three since Ty Jerome and LP. If a guy who controls the tempo, sets up plays and has the ball 70% of the time can shoot- then they’re not only setting up their teammates as threats they also may be setting themselves up as threats and so the defense needs to focus on their activities as well. It makes their triple threat position much more valuable.

Well we have 1 (possible 2 soon) freshman guards that can become that role. I hope they still see the floor a lot and warley is more of a backup ball handler

Im just wondering, who are those three shooters? McKneely and? Playing Taine together with Warley? Hope Bliss or Gertrude pan out as great shooters? Sharma in his first year? Start two other players (Perry and a transfer?) who’ve never played for us before?

It can definitely work, but to surround him with three high level shooters means we need three high level shooters. This is a roster with a notable lack of proven shooting ability. Warley to me feels like a dude you add when you already have proven shooters and just slot him in for a year. Adding him to a team where the shooting is still a question mark feels like you’re creating a bunch of new line-up headaches. But hey, that’s for the coaches to figure out I guess.

I LOVE adding Warley. It’s been a long time since we had two guards (Warley and Eli) who could get to the rim, draw fouls, and put pressure on the opposing centers. And they are both athletic defenders. Maybe we really are going to change the offense next year.

Warley dropped 23 against Louisville. I don’t think we were ever gonna get that from Dante lol cmon Perry!

I think Warley is going to get a lot of minutes, and maybe eventually the board will even learn to be glad of that, because we’re gonna need his defense. Prior to this add, our only plus defender was Gertrude (unless some unknown quantity surprises us). Maybe we’ve gotten spoiled to just expect the defense will always be there, but for me it’s a concern with this roster.

Of course also depends on hoos transferring in next…

Yeah, but can he do that against ACC-level competition?:rofl:

I’ll be in my happy place tonight with film!!!

Excited to check out Warley with a critical eye but, FWIW, he’s 98th in Evanmiya’s projected BPR, which is well ahead of anyone on that front we brought in last year (and any of the other names we’re linked to in recruiting right now).

There’s a little bit of a “SHOOTING” vibe happening across the fanbase right now, which I get - but I’m on a bit of a “LENGTH and ATHLETICISM” kick, myself, as I’d say that’s actually been more of the cardinal sin over the past three years (either not having enough or not playing it).

Great to have Warley aboard - especially with the position flexibility and need for depth to hedge against current (Bliss, Gertrude) and future (see the long list of players who got injured near the end of our seasons) injuries.

I mean the answer is yes? I think we’re all in agreeance the roster could use a talent refresh (or upgrade) heading into next year… for that to happen we’d have to depend on guys like Perry or transfers or for Bliss to be at the very least capable?

iMac will play heavy minutes, that’s a given and one elite level shooter. Taine will be a senior and a proven more than capable shooter. But does he raise the ceiling? IF (capitalizing for emphasis) Perry or Bliss or another transfer is a capable scorer, Warley will fit VERY well. He’s not the worst addition as is without all that for many of the reasons people have already mentioned.

@Hooandtrue is right this convo is circling haha.

Warley should and likely will play over Taine, Rohde, and Sharma, as much as possible. All three of those guys are very limited at this point, at this level unless huge jumps occur in the offseason.

I mean… what else is there to talk about? He just committed. We’re talking about the fit into the roster.

Anyway, as long as we land Perry and Bliss and Gertrude still get plenty of run, yeah, I’m ultimately down with it. Will be interesting to see how it all fits together at the end of the day.

But with that, I’ll stop commenting. Glad somebody wanted to commit and we’re on the board.
