It seems like we are playing to the level of our competition every game. Get up for the big games but not for the lesser opponents. And the shooting at JPJ has been way worse than games away or at neutral sites… I don’t get that.
Im actually not that pessimistic.
If we get Reece back for Houston we will be fine. I am happy with the leap Dunn took in terms of defense and that drive to score in crunch time.
Hopefully the intensity also kicks up a notch vs Houston.
No they don’t link. You have to be Facebook friends with them.
Ah, okay. Thanks.
A few things:
-
Shooting has come back down to earth. And continued to plow underground another 100 feet.
-
Not sure Kadin has really been a game changer offensively this season. Maybe we get one or two random games this year but still not strong enough in the post/down low.
-
Reece makes the offense better. Will need him back
-
You have an average night at the FT line and you probably cover that 12 point line (and still don’t feel great about the offense)
Positives: I think we will have Kadin back next year
Eh, I don’t think I underestimate Reece. He’s probably our most important player. But over the last five games, we’re 24/80 from three, which is 30%. He played in most of those. We may just not be as good of shooting team as the first few games led us to believe.
Kadin should have dominated offensively. That was the big gap
Secret to challenging us is to go small. Now do P5 teams have the balls to do it and bench their starting big guys…
We didn’t play well at all, but just decent FT shooting would have given us a double digit win. And JMU is not a generic, bad mid major. They would beat several teams in the ACC this year.
Going into this game he has among the best advanced metrics on the team, best box plus-minus, and fantastic shooting percentages. That said, he definitely had a bad game tonight. But he probably also deserves a little slack after the beating he’s taken over the past week. He probably needs rest as much as anyone (besides Reece).
You saw what happened when the team turned up the intensity. They tied it and we scored 7 straight and shut them down. It’s just annoying it took that happening for the urgency to kick in
This team really needs iMac to start hitting. He was long on a number of really good looks tonight. His track record has me not worried but he hits a few of those looks and the whole game changes. You could see it effected his confidence in the 2nd half
Who would have predicted before the season that this team would be elite at getting to the free throw line? I’ve watched every minute and I’m still not totally sure how that has happened, but it’s been the most consistent part of the offense so far.
KenPom and Torvik thought we’d win by 10. Then we lose Reece, we leave ~5-6 free points at the line, and we win by 5. Which kinda sounds pretty reasonable.
(Edit: KP said by 14. Still. Given the loss of Reece we’re still in the range of expectation.)
Dunn was the freshman of interest, but I was actually encouraged by McKneely tonight more so than other nights. He looked to attack tonight, not just look for 3’s. You can tell he’s still thinking a lot but I like it
I can certainly tell anyone who would listen that no good every comes from thinking.
That’s also true in basketball.
I think McKneely will be fine once he figures things out and get comfortable. It takes time. People forget, Guy struggled massively at times his first year.
Everybody needs to shove their hot takes straight up their asses and recognize that this team has zero losses, three really good wins, won tonight without their obvious best player, and has been dealing with quite difficult circumstances. Stop bitching. This is as good as it gets right now.
