JMU Game Thread

He showed what he can do when playing with the green team. Granted against weaker completion but I think there’s something to being someone that looks to create vs deferring because your sharing a court with all upperclassmen

FWIW I have a friend on the UVA staff who said Beekman should be fine. Just needs a week of rest

Chalking Kihei’s missed FT’s up to exhaustion. The other guys are just subpar at FTs and always have been.

Jayden’s defensive improvement from the beginning of last season to now is really impressive.

Post this game? Or pre-this game?

I wanted to check my memory on this, and yeah, there were some clunkers:

JMU was 39th in the NET rankings. That’s higher than Kentucky, Xavier, North Carolina and Virginia Tech – among others. So by that metric, this actually was an impressive win.

(Yes, I know the NET is flawed. I’m not going to argue it’s the best metric. But it is the one that the NCAA uses.)

I’m just glad we have (at least) another week-and-a-half to watch our territory slowly expand on the Reddit undefeated map.

Down to 8th on KenPom, which honestly feels closer to where this team currently is than 3rd.

And it’s still exceeding my best case scenario expectations for the season, so I’m pretty excited.

Also, with Texas losing, Houston game will be 1 vs 2, which is pretty cool.

Nice to get a Q2 win at home against a mid major foe.

From a resume perspective, this is currently a high end quad 2 win. JMU will probably drop in the NET rankings throughout the season but I think there’s a decent chance it is still a Q2 win on Selection Sunday.

The that map is captivating and the comments are often hilarious.

Houston still needs to beat Alabama

I thought that iMac would be like that freshman from Wisconsin is playing. Running off screens shooting 3s. Unfortunately he hasn’t even been hitting his wide open 3s at this point

True. If they lose, it’ll probably 1 vs 4 (with us as the 1, which would be awesome but absurd).

I believe tinkering with his shot has something to do with how he’s shooting. He doesn’t have any confidence. Same thing on the free throws

Hot take. If Armaan leaves we need a Sg from the portal. IMac will be good might need another year.

Corey pointed out what is pretty obvious to all. If the opposition dares us to make a play off the dribble, then Kihei and Reece are pretty much our only good options (maybe Dunn will gain a lttle confidence in that regard after the big one tonight.

I thought our D was excellent tonight. Yes, JMU missed a few easy ones, but they didn’t get that many. Gardner was working hard out there.

We may have to hold Houston to 35 to win that game.

Franklin got screwed royally with a couple of those fouls. Not a great night but 2-5 from 3 (4-9 in last 2 games) with at least 1 other that should have gone down.

Kihei is not only amazing for the roles he can play, but for his endurance to go 39 minutes picking up his man full court. I have no doubt some of that poor ft shooting was from exhaustion.
