JMU Game Thread

What is you guys username referencing? LOL

There’s such an enormous difference between having both Reece and Kihei on the floor as playmakers, and having only one of them. So much harder on the defense when they’re both out there.

Whatever it is we better be super thankful that Kihei came back because he ain’t ready for that kind of role.

Don’t be surprised if Purdue passes us for #2. They were close this week

No he’s not. McKneely must be balling out in practice because Tony definitely doesn’t have him on a short leash.

Gardner really shouldn’t be as that is his range. I don’t get that one… He has weird mechanics on free throws compared to when he drills shots against the Syracuse zone from the exact same spot.

They will, but probably not too much. Pretty sure the commentator that wasn’t Corey said jmu is favored in all of their remaining games except for one

Hoos just missed another free throw. Tonight felt like 2020 all over again. TGF Gardner. Without him stepping up, we lose. BVP SMH. Missed a big opportunity to step up. Hoos now 11 for 46 from the line.

Agreeing with some of you I see on here. The overreactions are unwarranted. If we have a normal FT shooting game (instead of an outlier bad one) we win by 12 and no one bats an eye. Obviously this team isn’t perfect and I don’t really think we’re a
national title contender but we’re damn good.

JMU isn’t some scrub team, they’re essentially as good as Notre Dame rn according to KenPom

I’m not so much concerned by this game as I am by us shooting 30% from three over the past five games. Have to think that’ll rebound upward somewhat at least. But where it settles will obviously be pretty influential in how the offense looks going forward.

Offense has been so good this year I gotta say it was kinda cool to see a vintage Tony Bennett defensive performance / grind it out win. Surprised we looked so good without our best defender too

That’s very fair. I do have a sneaking suspicion that this team might suffer from big game syndrome a bit. I think we’re good and we know it, and sometimes we get a little bored/careless when we’re expected to win fairly easily, especially on offense

I hope he keeps shooting and finds a groove

Watched the game - normally I don’t. Bad on me, I obviously jinxed the FTs. We hit our normal rate and we cover the spread. Watching IM and he’s on the London P track. He’s thinking a bit too much and the game is just a bit too fast. By late January I think he’s a reliable shooter. And I liked that he was looking to attack - he needs to let the dawg loose. With a healthy Reece we win that game by 25. We’re still figuring things out - and yes, the refs sucked tonite.

Cory.

So do I. We need someone consistent from 3. Kehei might be our best shooter right now and he missed I believe 5 foul shots in a row

What do you mean? We had Jayden.

(I kid of course but he’s become a real factor at that end of the court)

I mean a normal ft showing and UVa would cover without their best player. You got to witness Gardner come in and show out defensively.and you finally have a wing in Dunn that can play down hill and defend. Assuming health of reece, Dunns emergence is the most important thing to come out of tonight

I can’t get over how much better Gardner is on defense. He was a liability last year
