I would never recruit another prospect once he gets a Duke offer. When the Duke offer comes, same day I’d call him and say: “if you want to come to UVA then today is the day to commit and commit to not making any other visits or entertaining any other coaching staffs. If not, we’re done. We’re not wasting our time and resources any further.”
Doesn’t matter who it is or what the relationship is. There is no “this one is different.”

When it comes to Wilkins I’ve come to terms that if we’re going to get him, Duke won’t even pursue or offer. And if they do offer, he won’t even visit them.
If he does get an offer and does visit, it’s because he’s seriously considering it and probably will go there.
I think that’s the way we have to think about it going forward.

I would use exactly the strategy I outlined if Duke offers Wilkins. I’d tell him that if he’s going to commit to UVA, do it now or we move on. Just not interested in repeating this scenario year after year. It’s as stupid as Charlie Brown trying to kick the football.
If he’s going to come to UVA, he’ll commit before Duke gets around to offering.
