As a fan, I’m disappointed with the outcome. But I’m most disappointed for Tony, who obviously put a lot of effort into this one only to miss out.

He’s been through worse when it comes to basketball and he’ll be just fine in the long run. And there’s little doubt in my mind that he handled the outcome with far more class than I would have.

But at the end of the day, i’m just sick for him.

On a practical note, this is the kind of stuff that I imagine could turn a coach off from keeping going. Landing Kon might have kept him going for longer … who knows. Certainly doesn’t help his longevity, hopefully it’s just neutral.

I think it’s another log on the fire. CTB may act like Ned Flanders but he’s as competitive as Kobe/MJ.

And it would be a mistake to think that Kneuppel would be any better than what will be returning. McKneely and Rohde with two years of game experience. Bond with two years in the program. Then there’s Gertrude. Kneuppel, as a frosh, might not have been able to replace Murray.

It’ll be interesting to see how Duke uses Kon. It sounds crazy, but UVA might be more athletic than Duke in the near future.

What? Beekman will take up 30 of those minutes, and he’s going to be gone. Why would McKneely or Rohde (the latter he’s very familiar with) scare him more than the four five-stars he’ll be competing with at Duke?

Not crazy at all. I think we probably are more athletic. They have more talent, but we have a veteran point guard, Good shooters, good length, good athletes. We have more than a punchers chance to beat the always young (that was Ks excuse whenever they hit a rough patch) Blue Devils.

Any ideas on what went wrong here? At least to me it looks like he just got dragged in by the bright lights, not much else we could have done.

Because the stars don’t matter when you get to college. Just look at Coach Bennett’s history. He prefers to play experience when he has the option. He also demands defensive competence. Guy’s competition for playing time were Shayok and Thompson. I think that Kneuppel’s would have been a bit a bit more. At best, his role as a true frosh at UVa would have as much uncertainty as the one at Duke.

I want to say really rude things here, on twitter, and IG. I will reflect and save myself the embarrassment.

Its duke. Nothing else really.

Dont know if I would go that far but yeah McKneely and Rohde as 3rd years would probably play over Kon.

If Jared McCain goes pro, Kon’s only hurdle is Darren Harris who he dropped 30 points on in EYBL. Jaeden Schutt has to see the light and head back midwest, right? On the Wisconsin board they were even like ā€œThis means Schutt goes into the portal and we get him, right?ā€ lol.

McKneely and Rohde are going to be very good for us this year and will be even better after a year under their belt. Not to mention Bond and Gertrude being high ceiling players even if Bond is still developing and Gertrude slowly getting back to it after his acl tear

Not saying I’m the world’s greatest talent evaluator either, but I count 8 top 100 guys on next year’s roster. I’m willing to guarantee that number has never been present under Tony. Between 2017 and 2020, only four total top 100 guys were brought in. It’s just a different level of talent.

Player retainment and development is the goal now. Then you hope that 2 or 3 of the 9 or so high ceiling guys on the roster now or soon to be on the roster turn into all ACC type guys and few good role players fall out of the rest. That’s a team with a championship ceiling immediately.

What a Konfused young man.

For real though, I honestly don’t care and didn’t allow myself to get invested in this recruitment for some reason. Was far more interested and invested while following the Bliss recruitment.

Kon can play and would have been a great get, but not a need, a luxury. We are stacked at the 2 and 3 as is and in the long run, maybe missing out on Kon will prevent attrition of some of our existing players who know or are learning the system.

We dont need any player who chooses a team that never even took the effort to watch him play.

And when he comes to JPJ … Elijah Gertrude, Leon Bond, and Jacob Cofie say hello. And possibly even Ryan Dunn.

UVA is about to become a monster again on defensive

It’s a good call. No need to put stuff out about a kid in the public sphere. VIP thread though … :eyes:

I do think we’re selling Shayok and Thompson a little short here…1 made it to the NBA soon after/1st team in best basketball conference and the other was pretty talented when he made it down to mid-major level. Kyle Guy and Ty Jerome were able to crack through the rotation and it also included Devon Hall (NBA) and London Perrantes (NBA).

If anything, seems like Kon would have less completion than them to break through. More bodies to overcome but talent level seems less (Harris, Bliss, McKneely, Bond, Rohde, Getrude, Murray) but even looking at those names and today’s landscape I’ll be surprised if all 7 are here next year.

I wanted to win a recruiting battle with Duke really bad. And Kon looked like a good fit with us. But, part of me was wondering if we would be that much better as a team than the guys we already have. It seemed a bit like recruiting over a lot of good players.

It will be interesting to see how he fits in at Duke.
