Hockey or Lacrosse goalie?

Lacrosse. That ball is hard and the shot velocity has to be 70-90 mph at times. I bet goalies look like Dalmations with their shirts off.

Since I’m now a huge lacrosse guy, the Women’s Natty in LAX is on ESPN. Northwestern vs.Carolina. Go ā€˜Cats!

Full disclosure: My sister played lacrosse at UVA. They won a Natty in ā€˜93. Been hearing hearing about it for over 30 years… could explain a few things.

First name is indeed LAX-ish. If his name were something like Dallin Trank, yes, LAX would have been a no brainer.

Jim Brown would like to have a word.

I would not take this bet.

I’d be willing to bet most point guards recruited to a P4 school could switch sports as a freshman and start on the lax team by season two.

There’d surely be a learning curve that would be painful and funny to watch, but every sport that gets democratized [read: made cheap enough to play that anyone can] very soon starts looking a lot more multicultural than lax

Access to basketball is having shoes (maybe), knowing where someone has a ball, or is already playing. Anyone who is interested can just show up and find out hooping is for them.

Lax has been growing for sure, but it can never provide open access in the same way. And so it forgoes its own access to the very most innately gifted athletes.

You put a stick in those kids hands instead of a ball and it’s a matter of time. They lack refinement, but the ore is just different.

Fascinating plot twist. Maybe the basketball offseason has been boring, but the drama around the lacrosse team is soap opera worthy.

What do the lawyers here say.

I don’t really understand how there wouldn’t be a countersign but maybe that’s standard.

Nope. Not at 18 or 19. For all you can point to about the speed and strength athleticism, the specific hand eye coordination is a refined skill that takes tens of thousands of hours to reach the level of a high end D1 player. A football player or shorter basketball player could potentially become a high end SDM but wouldn’t have enough time to become a starting attackman or offensive midfielder during their college eligibility

That was 60 years ago. Abe Lincoln was a good power forward as well.

Not being disrespectful , but this is mildly humorous to me.

If any D-1 point guard or quarterback or receiver or defensive back or wing player in hoops played lacrosse growing up in a ā€œlacrosse areaā€ and worked on it like they did basketball/football/baseball, they surpass all the 5’9ā€ 160 lb guys that play lax.

It’s not the same athletic level and to suggest that lax guys have better hand-eye coordination than baseball (not even close) or basketball (not even close) or football players (maybe debatable in non-skill positions) is funny to me. I’m not picking a fight here, but truthfully, it’s not even close.

I still have respect for them, I know they work hard, but they are well below basketball/football/baseball for size speed strength combo.

It’s a bad argument to try to support. It’s basically a sport that is geographically advantaged. If Reece Beekman, or Ty Jerome, or Chance Mallory or Bernie Floriani, or Dante Harris or @DFresh11 grew up on Long Island and chose lacrosse over basketball, they would crush the Carters and Tanners and Woodward’s of the lacrosse world. They would be All Americans for sure.

Basically lacrosse is getting little white guys(for the most part) who grow up in a very specific region.of the country and don’t excel at other sports. There are exceptions- I recognize that. That’s not me being an asshole that’s just the truth.

Unless you were/are a lax bro, you would agree. It’s a much lower level athlete- smaller, slower, weaker, less competition.

I’m not saying they have better hand eye coordination. I’m saying it’s a specific skill set that takes thousands of hours of repetition to become an expert at. And that skill set falls within hand eye coordination rather than strength/speed/explosiveness athleticism

Ignore lacrosse for a second. Let’s look at darts. Do you think if LeBron or SGA started solely focusing on darts at 18 he’d be a top 5% (honestly D1 athletes might be higher than 95th percentile but I’m being conservative) dart player by 22? I sincerely doubt it. It would take more time than that or starting at an earlier age

Yes. If they started playing at 12 they absolutely would. The brain is much more malleable at that age than at 18 or 19 and they would have 4-5 years to develop the sport specific skills. A good example is how poor shooters at 18 rarely become good shooters by 22. But a kid can completely remake his shot between freshman year of high school and senior year of high school

If you threw the top incoming college running back in the country on a lacrosse team he’d only have a shot to see the field as a short stick defensive midfielder before he graduated. If you converted the top incoming high school freshman running back to lacrosse he’d probably be the best player in country by his sophomore year of college

Imagine an announcement will come very soon on the coaching front. Feels like Cassese given some discussions this weekend but not totally sure that wasn’t campaigning disguised as info.

Chemotti out of consideration per this tweet.

If to take @XHoo intel that decision coming soon, then to me feels like Galloway or Cassese. The tweet below infers they haven’t interviewed Kirwan or Buczek. Would prefer both of those guys though.
