⛹ Leon Bond - Official Thread

Objection!

(I’ve been pleased with bond, but he didn’t really play against UF so I hold judgment until we see him play against ACC level talent)

My thought is if Dunn is allowed to shoot from three and Bond is his replacement then he should too

He also swished his shot during the Blue/White game so think he can do it.

Conversely if Dunn were to post up and shoot a bit more from the inside then that may help get him in a rhythm for threes later.

Wrote in my thing, but I think CTB is onto something playing Bond as the 3 within the Inside Triangle - which could serve the purpose of regularly getting him in the post vs. SFs as opposed to PFs.

His defense/rebounding at the 3 seems like a huge deal that can help cover for Groves or be scary with Dunn/Buchanan.

If I understood Jay correctly Bond is much more of an inside guy than outside. Well, thats pretty onvious and yea great call by you there

Fresh need to find out what the inside triangle is

To your point, I think we could see teams put their 4s on Bond and challenge our 4 to win a mismatch. That’s where the Dunn drives off the wing in Inside Triangle become important.

But overall, being able to have good options for mismatch-ball is very helpful, as historically, defenses switching everything has gummed up the works with the offenses that we like to run. We like to create advantages with off-ball action that gets opponents one step behind the play and eventually in full rotation, and switching is designed to limit the need to do that. But if we can straight up win mismatches that come with switching, that can open things up again for our off-ball movement as teams stop switching some actions.

I got you. They call it “3-Man.”

Yeah. If teams put their 4s on Bond when he’s at 3, that’s also beneficial for us. Forcing other teams to react to what you’re doing in ways that make them uncomfortable is usually quite effective.

Duke was a problem for us with the switching. Not sure they are capable of that this year or what Scheyer prefers but we are ready for it now.

And what are you now calling “flow”?

So from whats his name Winters maybe that was Phil Jacksons genius coach with the Bulls?

I call Flow, Flow because that’s what they call it and it’s less wordy.

It’s really just a few variations on continuity ball screen offenses, though. They’ve got a version where they clear three men to one side and screen on the other (used that more during 2019 and at the beginning of possessions last year), they’ve got a version where they put a man in each corner and one on the wing and screen at the opposite wing (which is what they run most often), and I’m starting to notice a Spain-style screen set where they still have two guys in the corner and have the wing interact with the ball screener after that screen takes place.

It’s not the same as THE Triangle offense… but it could probably be a distant cousin.

Yeah Jwilly said that during yesterdays broadcast, but Leon Bond said he can shoot and wants to. :eyes: So it will be interesting if he gets a chance to shoot from the perimeter which could open ALOT up for him.
