London Johnson Contenders & Other 2023 Updates

There’s activity, but it’s mostly maintenance and just trying to get a head start on spring. Coaches will go out during exam break coming up. It’s just that the total activity from Nov-April amounts to about the same as as a busy September day. The point I was making is that there’s no urgency about recruiting during the season. Not all months on the calendar are equal.

Watching some film on Johnson…shades of Jaden Ivey? Similar profile (6’4”…although much skinnier right now, springy, good creativity and shoot mechanics). Exactly the type of guard we need moving forward, crossing fingers

I need a follow up here @Batazawa. If you know something, follow up. Your post was presented as fact

Dude, read his posting history, he doesn’t have any inside info. Just being pessimistic

Lol good call. UVA recruiting PTSD is strong with this one

If London Johnson turns out to be as good as Jaden Ivey at UVA we will be stacked going forward. That dude is an incredible basketball player.

Totally agreed, the key phrase is “shades of” haha… but one can be hopeful

I like Johnson’s game a lot. I don’t know that I believe he is 6’4 though. With all the measurements with shoes and all that, it’s almost impossible to accurately know a player’s height, but he doesn’t ‘feel’ 6’4 if that makes any sense. Could be wrong though.

Hard to tell with the hair lol but he looks taller and longer than McKneely who is listed 6’3 or 6’4 depending on where you look.

I really just wish all prospects had their height measured with their shoes off. I realize there is no incentive for players to ever do this, so they won’t, but it creates a weird unnecessary inefficiency in recruiting. Well, not really I guess, since coaches who see them live can obviously get a feel for their actual size… but think of the people who think way too much about this stuff on the message boards! So unfair to us, haha.

Johnson is probably 6’2"- 6’3" and gets a bonus because of the hair, but he has pretty long arms it seems. I walked by Mckneely when he came to JPJ for one of the first games this season and he’s legitimately 6’3" - 6’3.5"

I heard that was a legit issue this spring during the first live periods. A lot of coaches who had only seen tape during covid had some “Oh…” moments when they saw kids live.

Old school way to judge height is at the shoulders. So cant add long neck or big hair to how tall a player is

I was shocked the first time I saw Kihei in person. I had just assumed all the video I had seen of him was from really far away.

My whole thing is can London Johnson shoot *consistently? Since the National Championship we have not added a Ty Jerome or even a London Perrantes type of shooter yet, but we have replaced Kihei a few times over (Morsel, and Beekman). There IS a place for those type of players ie: Kihei contributed throughout our championship year, but we are still missing a Ty Jerome/London Perrantes, and of course a Kyle Guy (And YES McKneely does solve that, but Ty/London stirred the drink.

These stats from MaxPreps are incomplete, but they show London Johnson going 26-64 (40.6%) from three point land at South Charlotte last season.

I’m going to need that commitment in short order. Been a rough stretch of sports around these parts…

Sorry not fact, should not had said it that way, just our history on decisions like this usually don’t pan out, especially for higher rank recruits that like us early. The longer they wait or push back thier announcement we usually lose steam on this type of recruitment.
