Looking at the 2021 Recruiting Horizon

Curious how you’d reframe the strategy now as a 5 scholarship, two year process.

Seems to me that a Murray + mckneeley + Taylor two year guard outcome is too optimistic, if not even suboptimal.

Also, it now seems clear TB is not going to get the chance to uncover the proverbial hidden gem developmental prospect for 21. Is pocketing at least 1, if not even 2 or 3, ship(s) now the best move?

I think there are a LOT more targets on board that tony and staff are keeping tabs on in 2021 and 2022 than we know of.

This is not even close to a doom and gloom situation but it is frustrating that a prospect us fans have been fixated on for a while due to the lack of news might not be a hoo.

Keep em all and go for McKneely, Taylor, Nickel, and transfers. Would love to see that happen.

Yeah they won’t take those three guys. Really, the question is if they’d go after two. All depends how Bennett categorizes each. He typecasts. When the role is filled, it’s on to the next one.

Obviously they want a big Brogs-style guard, and a skilled Gill esque PF. evidence suggests a shooter, and a PG, hard to say yet what would be 5th.

a Chris Bunch/Collin Smith/Alphonzo Billups lanky guard in the mold of Hunter/Jabri? or a luxury spot?

We desperately need that big guard, Brogs, Hall etc that can guard 1-3. That’s a pretty big hole going forward. Hopefully JAR can get there

It seems with Keels, things on the surface in April felt like UVa was trending in a big way. Then famous tweet from the WeJustDon’Miss account predicting him to UVa seemed to irritate those on the Keels side. It’s felt downhill from there.

Even with the Duke info from Evans, I’m still not convinced he doesn’t end up at UVa. And I think Evans is as good as it gets. Just don’t see any signs, other than Murray, the staff is heavily involved with any other guards.

And just to follow up on Evans from my post above, as much as I respect his information, Andrew Slater is king. If he says Keels elsewhere, then I’ll say it’s a wrap. Why he isn’t the 247 National analyst is beyond me.

I’ll have what he’s having.

Evans also put a future cast for warley to Michigan on July 28th

Posting just for information. I was browsing other teams 21 recruiting so far and noted the following:

We are the only ACC team without a commit and of the other consensus top 5 teams heading into next season (Basically us and some combo of Nova Baylor KU MSU Gonzaga) we are the only one without a commitment.

I post this without evaluating rosters/playing time etc. some may be apples to oranges. I’d be surprised though if we’re the only one of those teams fighting the playing time narrative in 21.

Not sure what back channels Corey has been working, but mine went quiet a few weeks ago. That usually means a decision made.

I feel like it a decision were already made we would see other offers

Or we’d see one of those guys toss out a CB or futurecast

If I’m understanding what HGN has been saying correctly, it’s possible CTB has received indication from Keels that the answer is “not UVA”. But I think if that were the case we would see new offers go out or new targets get contacted

Remember Villanova had zero recruits last year… so it is not unprecedented for an elite team to not land anyone… and you’ve seen how their recruiting class is lining up this year.

Agreed, but I believe they did that intentionally to have monster classes like their 21… won’t happen but it would be pretty embarrassing to lay on egg with three schollies available

If you go back and read about it… they offered 6 of the higher end recruits and struck out on all of them… for whatever reason… or because they were just shooting for the stars. I see a lot of similarities.

And coming off a Natty with just about as much mojo as you could have, despite potential playing time issues.

True, but what did Nova do after there 18 Natty? Land 2 5 stars and 4 star Juston Moore.
