Looking at the 2021 Recruiting Horizon

How long were they at Nova? I literally have no clue if they are there still or have all declared… only thing I know about Nova is they have had the same exact guard for the past 12 years…

I still think it is apples and oranges… they lost 4 of their 5 starters to the NBA draft after that Championship team… and our class after that wasn’t anything to sneeze over either

If a decision has been made, you would think the UVa coaches probably have an idea. With no recent offers out, unless they hold off to see what happens with Murray, could mean they feel really good. Then again, it could mean they are planning to move on ‘22 kids.

All still there

I understand both of those things, simply pointing out what they did w a Natty visa via what we’ve done to date, since you brought up Nova as a comp

First, I imagine a prospect or two will find their way to committing to Virginia. Second, I also imagine the only ones feeling any sense of embarrassment are fans who had exaggerated expectations for this recruiting class. Too many things were not working in Virginia’s favor this cycle. First, and foremost, the pandemic. Second, the roster is both young and stacked. As has been mentioned countless times, there are no clear paths to early playing time. Essentially, Virginia has had three nice recruiting classes in succession. Four in a row, without any premature attrition would have been difficult under the best of circumstances. It’s worth noting, as jazznut did above, that Villanova didn’t sign anyone in the 2020 class, and I doubt that they were embarrassed by that outcome. Eventually, Virginia will add players to the roster. If not this fall, then next spring. The program is exceedingly healthy.

With the announcement that the recruiting dead period will be extended past September 1st until at least September 30th (surprise, surprise), what is the likelihood that any of Virginia’s targets will visit the Grounds on their own? And, if they do, while I know they cannot have any face to face contact with the coaching staff, can they meet with players?

The Nova guys you reference are the 2019 class, which since they won the National Championship in 2018, should be compared to our 2020 class. Their 2020 class was non existent while our 2021 class is still yet TBD. At this point I do think it is a fair comparison.

I expect at least 1 2020 redshirt so that guy will effectively be 2021 class. Also we could see the new transfer rule go into effect after this season (where you don’t have to sit a year). in that case having a bunch of extra 2021 scholies could be an advantage. I still expect atleast one 2021 recruit and maybe a second if we hit on one of our high end targets

To be clear I’m not all doom and gloom, just seriously bummed on the recent Keels mews. I still think we get Murray, allowing the staff to focus all there energy on trying to swing Kaufman, which is seeming more plausible as of late.

I worry Kauffman will come at the cost of Gregg (without getting Kauffman)

I remember reading a couple of weeks ago that feeling was Keels would make a decision on his birthday. NBA draft site indicates that’s in a couple of weeks so maybe you’re right.

Would say it’s unlikely that any of the players current being recruited come on their own. I think it’s okay for them to meet with the players while on a dead period visit. The catch is they have to arrange it on their own. The coaching staff can’t have anything to do with it. Believe that’s right anyway.

I like this movie. Don’t think it necessarily signals one thing or another but shows Coleman that we are serious about him. You can’t half ass a recruitment lol

But doea it show that in this a situation (our lateness in regards to others in the recruitment) without an offer?

IDK. Maybe the time investment shows that we care going out of the way?

HGN, why don’t you think Coleman has an offer yet? Just because tony hasn’t seen him in person? If we do offer and recruit him hard do you think we’ll be a major player or is early playing time key for him?

They’ve been weird about offers for a while, going back to last summer. Coleman will be hard to get. Sorta like with Warley, would need to change his mindset.

UVA offered Warley only a couple weeks after FSU and it made a big impression. Made the cutdown list immediately and was apparently sitting in the driver’s seat for a little while. I think Deebo is different. Not sure the UVA interest moves the needle as much with him. Seems enamored with the SEC and I think, like most kids, he’s looking for that early playing time promise/possibility.
