šŸæ LRA Summer Movie Thread

There are still some things that you have to see on the big screen. I can’t imagine not experiencing the new Top Gun in the theater.

This is a legit issue. Unless you are seeing Gladiator 2.

Thought F1 was solid, speaking as a non fan. I love racing movies and I think it hits all the right notes, though the script is a little cookie cutter. Worth seeing in theater I would say!

Grumpy old man take: movies are too long these days. Anything over an 1:45 should have an intermission. Can’t believe Coppola took a stand on that. Of all dumb issues, to insist everyone hold their pee for hours while they watch your boondoggle of a movie…

I saw Whiplash in Puerto Rico to kill time before a flight. I had a few cervesas and had to run to the restroom during the previews. When I came back an old man was sitting in my seat and eating the popcorn I left behind.

He wouldn’t move and started yelling at me in Spanish. And then his son/nephew/younger man started asking me what my problem was in broken English while people shushed.

That’s my Larry David moment.

Used to love going to the movies. That was a big night out for the family when I was a kid. Lots of good snacks available at the concession stand.

Howevah (said in a Boston accent), we had a secret weapon in our town. There was a Chinese place right next to the theater. You could get 12 egg rolls for like five bucks in a double paper bag and sneak them in to the theater. My dad would get the eggrolls and I was in charge of sauce. Muy deliciouso. Great memories.

Also, as @DFresh11 said, Raisinets are elite. Guaranteed to produce a loose stool the next day.

I feel like I could make a chocolate covered prune and cash in on you raisinette fans. And then bundle it with some ā€œoops I crapped my pantsā€

My buddy who loved Gladiator 1 and is a big history guy was absolutely infuriated by Gladiator 2.

My biggest problem with the movies today is the cost for a ticket… I used to complain about $7 tickets and would try to always get the matinee $5 rate. The matinee rate might be $22.50 now. Dumb. I can just rent most on streaming for $19.99 and the whole family can watch without having to get $40 popcorn  .

I only go to see movies on Tuesdays now. Alamo in Charlottesville has a $7 ticket on Tuesdays and that’s far and away the best deal around.

Totally agree with this. during Covid when everything went direct to streaming was ideal. Now if something comes out that you really want to see it can be a difficult decision to wait for streaming (another 6 months?) or shell out $100 to hit the theatre.

They also do happy hour with $5 drinks and apps from like 3-6. You just order at the bar and close your tab but anything ordered you’re allowed to take in to the theater with you. That’s our go to move.

Nah it’ll be on streaming in 2 weeks wait it out

Also. Correct pronunciation is TheATRe. Carry on snack guys

Getting a Regal or Alamo unlimited pass is a good deal if you see enough movies. I usually see enough movies for it to be a no brainer, but if you only see stuff now and then it’s a bad deal, obviously.

So what are the good summer movies?

Saw 28 Years Later the other day and had a good time.

Of course, it all depends on if you like zombie movies. The first half is a bit more action packed than the second half, but very good overall.

We have an old timer local theater that has one screen and is $4 for adults and $3 for kids.
Can also rent it out for parties for $150 and show whatever movie you want.
They also have a no cell phone usage policy where if they catch you - you get kicked out with no refund!!! It’s beautiful.
