Rapaport is so annoying
Tee times and matchups for tonight’s championship.

How are matchups decided? Each team has to place in some pre-determined order? One team puts up a lineup and the other can counter? Both teams submit in any order blindly?
I like the last one. Makes the coaches think strategically. I wish tennis would do it that way too. Trying to anticipate a counter can backfire, but doing it straight can leave you exposed.
The process will follow the method employed at the Presidents Cup. The higher seeded team (as determined through the 54-hole stroke-play portion of the championship) will have the first choice of putting a player on the board for Match No. 1. The opposing team will then name an opponent for that match, followed by a player for Match No. 2. The process will continue on an alternating “S” curve until the players for all five matches are named. (The higher seeded team may defer with the first pick, letting the other team begin the selection process.)
didn’t realize Ok St is one of the blue blood of men’s NCAA golf. Knew some great players went there, But they’ve more championships than anyone since the 1980s.
Hmm…so thinking out loud here, I think picking 1st would be more advantageous because you effectively choose the 2nd, 4th and 5th matchups and you’re putting out your best guy 1st anyway.
Our lineup ranks are 12, 61, 95, 119 and 589/215. Okie Lite is 6, 10, 31, 99 and 111.
Hmm…seems Okie didn’t put out their best guy first, they put the lowest guy first. No, that doesn’t make sense, they must’ve filled in the order starting with the latest starting time.
So they put out 10, we kinda conceded and matched 95 there. We put out 61, they sorta conceded and put out 99. They put out 6, we countered with our best guy 12. We put out our 4th guy, 119, they counter with 31. Their last guy is 111 and ours is 589.
I think they’re counting on winning 1. 111 v 589, 2. 31 v 119 and 5. 10 v 95 with 6 vs 12 and 99 v 61 close matches they could win but don’t have to.
I think I would’ve tried to forcematch my 589 vs their 6 or 10 and take my chances of winning 3/4 of my top 4 vs their bottom 4.
They just beat the #1 and #3 teams in the country - did they do it for those?
I watched some of yesterday. Seemed like UVA made a number of clutch shots/puts at crunch time while a couple of the OK St guys were shaky. So even if they look inferior on paper like they did against Auburn and Fla they should just go out and do what they have been doing and let the chips fall. If OK St is just better so be it.
I wish I knew how any of those draws were done. I can’t reverse engineer a strategy based on any combination of picking 1st or 2nd and starting with earliest or latest tee time.
The only pattern I see is that we started the same lineup in the same order for every round regardless of the opponents order. From first off the tee, it was always Puregger, Dusngmanee, James, Chang and Lee - 589, 119, 12, 61, 95, no matter what ranking order the opponent used. Auburn was 72, 3, 14, 8, 15. Florida was 60, 28, 26, 108, 24. Okie is 111, 31, 6, 99, 10. Okie was the same for 1-2, but changed for the final. UF changed from 1 and 2.
Valiant effort!!! Hoos have now lost 3 straight years to the eventual champions.
Historically 70 of the national titles won by just 5 schools.
Ok State with their 12th title which is only tied for 3rd most - crazy!
i watched most of this… UVa started out strong… but OK State made some super clutch shots to keep it close on the front 9… then they ended up pulling away in the end. Very cool that UVA made the finals!
It was great to watch and I thought both teams played really well. It was definitely won, and not lost, if you know what I mean. For awhile there I thought we were going to be an official swimming and golf school. We’d have to demo Scott Stadium and replace it with a golf driving range…
Yeah, kudos on a great showing.
Several observations/questions
- I saw that the OSU golfer, Lee, had a caddy/coach. Didn’t see anyone else with one. For one thing, I thought that was not allowed. If it is, why wouldn’t everyone do it?
- I’ve watched a lot of PGA play and was a bit surprised at the difference in the level of play. These guys have to be pretty darn good to get to the finals of the Championship, but saw a lot of pretty bad shots. After thinking about it, maybe it is because the PGA telecasts focus on the good shots, whereas yesterdat they just had 4 groups to follow.
- Coach paid some big time compliments to Ben James. Said he and Denny were the two best putters he had coached.
They all had either a coach, assistant coach or non-playing player as a caddy/assistant walking with them.
Yes, but they weren’t actively doing caddy-like things, were they? This guy was reading putts, pointing out lines, etc. Did I just miss that?
Most of them were helping with reads… I saw a few actually pointing to spots on the green to aim at.
Tuesday night we made the tough birdie putts and Oklahoma State missed a bunch of theirs. Last night was reversed. Tough outcome, but the boys played well. Just not quite good enough in the moment. Still, runners up is an amazing season.
Ben James, Bryan Lee, and George Duangmanee qualified for the US Open at various events today.
