I have the Silverton 620 which I got from Costco. It’s currently on sale and the price in the stores is about 100 bucks less than online. I also buy generic pellets from Costco too, which usually runs about 15 bucks for 40 lbs. other people can taste the difference between smoking with different types of wood, but I’ve never been able to tell, so the blend is fine for me.

Do you have access to the PX stores? The CGX flyer says they’ll give you a 100 buck gift card with purchase of any Traeger grill for Black Friday weekend.

It is extremely hard to be bad at smoking meat with a pellet smoker.

I do have access to the PX (Army :-1:) /BX (Air Force :+1:)… I’ll check there to see what they have since its tax free and all. Sometimes it’s still not the cheapest though.

Do you have any issues with generic pellets? I had trouble with my meat probe (traeger replaced under warranty) so I asked some general questions and was told by their rep that they’ve had issues with generic pellets getting clogged up.

I’ve been using the traeger reserve ones so far. Gone through 2 bags, I think they’re solid but have been intrigued by other brands I’ve seen.

Nah, haven’t had any issues with the auger jamming or clogging, just the igniter every now and then.

I feel like I have to give this advice far too often on this site but you are supposed to call a doctor after 4 hours

So… everyone uses the pellets then? No electric or charcoal users here?

I have a Weber Smoky Mountain too, but I stopped using that when I got the Traeger. Temperature consistency was way too damn hard to maintain and it sure as hell is easier to check and adjust my temps on my phone via app at 3 in the morning if I’m smoking a brisket than actually going outside to my backyard and adding logs or charcoal in the middle of the night.

Yeah… Im going pellet… seems like my jam. Too many “recommendation” websites… too many. LOL!

@4547Lambeth @JBHoo BX prices look comparable to Amazon… other than I won’t have to pay taxes on these prices.

CGX (Coast Guard) has this offer. I’d guess the Army and AF ones do too?

I mean that would make sense as one would think the CGX PX BX MCEX & NEX were all run by the same company… but in fact the CGX is run by itself… the PX/BX is a separate company and the MCEX/NEX is a third company. They are all run a little bit differently… because you know. That makes sense and all since we are a joint force right?

Also it’s only a hundred bucks and tax is a bit less than 100 so to me probably not worth braving Black Friday crowds and having to pick up a 200 pound box and drive it home over just having it shipped to your front door.

Maybe so but how are you gonna smoke meat on a boat or a plane? It would be easy to do in a tank. Think about it.
