We were outcoached (again).

Colombia’s plan was to pack the midfield to neutralize Weston/gio/etc, wait for turnovers, and counterattack quickly. And that’s because everyone knows Gregg will only coach one way and refuse to make any adjustments.

The flanks were open to attack, and we could have stretched them horizontally with more rapid switches in play. And we had a massive speed advantage in the wide positions. But Gregg wants his defenders to play through the midfield and dominate possession in a deliberate way. He thinks he’s the American Pep.

Well we won the possession battle yesterday….and I’m sure Gregg thinks the problem is merely execution.

A coach not making adjustments and doubling down on execution? Never heard of such a thing…(cough, cough….)

And I like it.

Does it have to be @sshole? Why not just athlete?

Simply not true… Tim Duncan - Dawg!
Reggie Lewis - Dawg!

Concur. I think a key to dawg-edness is the confidence that, if things go haywire and a fight breaks out, that dude is gonna be in the middle of it. Plays to the echo of the whistle and is always looking for an edge. Frustrates opponents and instigates lapses in basketball judgment. Intimidates finesse players, challenges other dawgs directly no matter their size advantage.

It’s not just toughness, it’s a DGAF attitude. Pick your weapon and do battle. Almost like basketball is just the medium, being a dawg is the game.

There is a cricket ground in Richmond at Deep Run Park… was shocked when I saw it. I was refereeing a private middle school soccer game right next door… I have no idea what teams play there however…

My company employs a lot of folks of South Asian origin. They started an after-work cricket game in the field in front of our office building which became quite popular until Covid hit and everyone got sent home. Even gringos started participating and were heartily welcomed. I still don’t understand the rules or strategies but it looks like a lot of fun.

We can watch a game and I can explain them to you if you want.

I actually really love Cricket… I know a lot of folks don’t like how slow it is, but I love how you have to be mentally sharp batting and fielding.

As you only have one out as a batsman in T20 or an ODI… you have to be sharp or you aren’t up to bat that long. You can’t swing for the fences knowing you will be back up in a few innings.

Then in the field… you could be standing as a Long Off for an hour without a ball coming to you, but then one fly ball comes and if you didn’t stay sharp and drop it, that’s a severe error you may not get a chance to redeem yourself on.
