Rhoback’s good stuff, local company. I have the green hoodie he’s wearing in one of the pics.

I called them out for for being a Charlottesville company and making a deal with Armando Bacot first, a UNC player, archrival who is located in Chapel Hill, instead of Kihei the national champion who has been in Charlottesville for 5 years.

Rhoback is good quality stuff. I also have that green hoodie.

And yes, they signed Bacot but ever since Bacot has signed these NIL deals he doesn’t seem to be the same player. Titus called out Rhoback being from Cville as a possible influence, haha.

my first thought as well reading that tweet

Yeah, the jealousy part was inevitable. Money disparity is challenging to relationships – jealousy, resentment, just plain disconnect. I guess that’s a silver lining for teams that don’t do a lot with NIL.

The jealousy part is real but the late or failure to pay part is the thing that will kill a team. You can’t hire athletes out to be mercenaries not pay them and then expect them to be happy.

Also probably impossible to control with the money decentralized

Why we may be ahead of the game with the Cavs futures thing. Have to think there’s a lot more security in a centralized entity

Hopefully Miami is one of those teams.

Are these big NIL deals finalized with just a handshake? I assumed there would be a signed contract or something, or does that not matter?

This is about promises made to recruits (mostly transfers) from coaches who A) often have no control over these things and B) are violating NCAA rules (ha) by making such promises. I suspect there’s also a lot of recruits hearing what they want to hear, not understanding how things work.

Exactly what @HoozGotNext said. We all hear how School A has xmililion in NIL money set aside but none of it is liquid.

The comparison to overseas or minor league ball is spot on. When i played rugby overseas the lower divisions are like this. US is still like this in the MLR we called it boot money. A team assures you they have x amount lined up for your and rather than it being salary you get cash left in your boots in the changing room. It’s how clubs got around profeasionalism deals.
