I don’t doubt any of this but just the fact that these terms are now associated with college sports is pretty sad. Also I’m glad I do basketball and not football, which has gotta be 10x worse.

Well, we know we aren’t one of those 15, hope we are in the ā€˜and counting’

Most schools are operating in that range… really? If UVA was operating in that range I feel like they wouldn’t have an issue recruiting elite players.

So what’s the real story with UVAs NIL? I feel like it’s being held back or Somethings amiss

I am a little skeptical only because it comes from the On3 founder, whose site’s value proposition appears to come from putting numbers and predictions on everything regardless of whether it has any shred of accuracy.

You are exactly right. Shannon figured the online sports game very early

Maybe of interest, Shawn Moore sent me a note on LinkedIn stating he was going to be in Dallas and wanted to connect regarding, I’m guessing, donations, etc. I posed the NIL question and said I’d welcome a discussion. I’ve been sitting with dry powder on this as I have zero idea how to be effective with any donation. Visit is supposed to be this month and I doubt I’m at the top of anyone’s priority list.

This is the first time in several years I’ve been contacted directly so maybe there is increased focus on how to bring NIL to UVa?

Hanging out with Shawn will be worth it anyway.

Agreed. not sure I’ll make the visit list but will let you know if it happens and give my take then.

Thanks for the heads up. Interesting approach, not sure of effectiveness etc. But glad there’s potential moves/action being taken. I’ve always said there’s money to be had within the UVa community it just needs to be tapped into, and people need to be pointed in a direction or given an opportunity to support. Plenty of people out there wanting to do their part just haven’t been asked or told how they can.

Moore’s job with the AD is fundraising for the master plan, so I’m guessing that’s what he’s reaching out for. Doubt the AD is doing any NIL fundraising directly, that probably has to go through one of the official partners.

Yeah, IMO NIL money and the ā€œbig fancy buildings and stuffā€ money are competing

What is another reason I believe NIL will be reigned in sooner than later.

if only we build this new $100M facility, we can compete with the best programs in the country.

Or we could just go buy the best team for $5M.

Yeah I imagine fundraising for athletic depts has gotten a little more difficult.

Maybe it is a useful and necessary corrective to the big infrastructure arms race.

Agreed. Also hopeful that he can point me in the right direction on NIL. Wonder what happens if I say you only get $X, all of it goes to either the master plan OR NIL, what is the answer? His job says master plan, the kid who didn’t even get pizza money during our heyday on the gridiron might say NIL.

Would people be interested in a $10 a month basketball only NIL Sponsorship subscription?
