NBA Offseason 2020

You thinking he might be cast out? That was my initial thought, but forgot the Nets have Bird rights.

It’s going to be fascinating. I read somewhere that signing Joe at 12 mil would put them at $50 million in luxury tax. Expected that Joe will sign at $14-$16 mil.

You’d think if they want to go all-in, they sign him rather than make the mistake that the Bucks did with Brogdon. But that’s a lot of money. Even for a billionaire (esp. given the current affairs of his Alibaba).

Anyway, after all that I’m guessing he still ends up with the Nets.

Yea I just meant, as you said, they’re going to have to pay if they want to keep Joe either way really. But with the guys they’d have to trade away, they’d be clearing roughly the same amount of money that they’d have to pay harden. I agree with you and have been of the opinion for a while that Joe is going to stay in Brooklyn. They love him and, frankly, they need him and he’s said his best case scenario is staying in Brooklyn.

If they get Harden Joe needs to get out of Brooklyn. He can still get shots with two ball dominant players but not three.

San Antonio? Maybe Pop gets Joe and Ty together

But Joe’s most attractive trait is that he doesn’t need a lot of shots to be effective

He would get no shots in that scenario. If Joe wants to continue his growth as a player that would be a terrible situation. If he is content with regressing to a guy who just stands in the corner and shoots threes it would be fine.

And that wasnt the case at all in the bubble. Joe showed vast array of offensive skills with a lot of drives to the rack etc.

I really don’t think that would be his entire role though. You have to keep in mind that during the regular season Harden, Irving, and Durant won’t be on the floor together all the time.

It sounds like you just want Joe to go to Charlotte and hoist up a lot of shots for a lottery team. If you can find me the team that will both allow Joe to shoot a bunch and compete for an NBA title then please let me know. But I would argue that if Joe is shooting a bunch of shots it means you’re probably not winning a title.

Joe could fit with the Nets. Be a spot up specialist and lead the offense for the second team. Realistically that’s what his role would be on any true contender.

As far as development and career growth he’s in his late 20s now. He may add wrinkles to his game but his overalll style is set. He knows he makes his bucks as a 3 and D and teams woth drive and kick guards set him up perfectly

Because there is nothing in between three extremely high usage players on one team and Charlotte? Those are the only two choices that exist lol no ideally the Nets ship out Kyrie in the Harden deal and Joe stays. It that doesn’t work I’d like to see him go to Boston, Miami, San Antonio, Golden State, Toronto, Indiana, the Clippers, etc. A playoff caliber team that spreads the ball around. Look at what playing with the Lakers did to Danny Green. Look what happened to Kyle Korver in Cleveland. That’s not what Joe needs at this stage of his career if his goal is to become the best basketball player he can be. He can go to a team and fill that role when he’s 33 and trying to win a ring before he hangs them up. Or heck if he wants that role at least go to the Lakers so he can get a ring out of it. Don’t stay and become an 8 point a game stand in a corner three point specialist just to lose in the Eastern semis.

Problem is these teams that would allow him more opportunities but are still contenders just don’t have the available cap space to make it happen. It’s from a few months ago, but I already broke down the five most likely destinations for him:

The problem is that most of the teams you list that are the better other solutions either present many of the same problems that the Nets present, do not have the cap room to sign Harris, aren’t true contenders for a title, or are saving cap room to make a run at Giannis. There aren’t gonna be a lot of spenders this year because of cap problems.

Korver and Green are terrible comparisons. Green is 33 and is on the back end of his career. Korver was 35 when he joined the cavs. Neither had the skill sets to do anything but shoot corner threes. Harris has a much better skill set and will get to be a primary option with the second unit.

Edit: Brodgonfanpages article hits the nail on the head. It looks incredibly likely that either Harris sticks with the Nets or goes to one of the leagues bottom feeders

Problem is putting Kyrie and Harden together. With only one of them what you say is true. With both of them one of those guys is going to run the second unit. It’s a good place for Joe if there is only one of Kyrie or Harden. He needs to book it out of there as quickly as possible if the Nets have both. Based off that article I hope he goes to Toronto if the Nets add Harden.

Typing up something for the blog now, but initial takeaway is that this is a good move for Ty. Gives him an opportunity to establish himself in an organization that is rebuilding but has promise and good people running things. He’ll likely be the backup pg behind rubio until OKC either draft their PG of the future or determine that Ty is good enough to be a starter and they can look to get stars at other positions. Rubio is a holdover, shouldn’t be there more than a year or two. They’re gonna lose a lot of games this year but for a prospect like Ty that’s honestly not a bad thing.

Yeah that seems OK for Ty. OKC has a perpetual need for dudes who can shoot. Does OKC see Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as a PG or SG?

Like most players developed under CTB, Joe is Efficient!

I like Ty in OKC. That team is getting raided for spare parts, but they have a ton of picks and potential coming their way. He could find himself some regular playing time which is what he needs more than anything right.
