Sorry I dropped the ball on that - will have to dig that up this weekend. Reduced to mostly phone posting these days
All good!
You did a good job constructing the poll. Only Miami and Arkansas from the preseason poll missed the Tourney.
I think it was top-19 in the AP poll, proving for the 1000th time that the most coherent AP poll is the preseason one, where everyone is actually trying to rank teams along the same criteria of being the best.
And will also say perusing the thread, there was only one âOtherâ team that didnât make the tourney.
St. Johnâs (selected by WFSđ©) who arguably should have made it in place of the Hoos.
Most common âOtherâ was the Hoos. Who did not reach the Elite 8.
Exact same for me. Last year I was so excited coming into the tournament, and I liked we had the first game. Hoped weâd take care of business and then I could watch for a couple days without needing to worry about anything.
When things didnât go our way, I went out of my way to avoid seeing games or results. The combination of it being such an upset and right as the games were starting took all the fun out of it for me. I was so down I even got work done.
This year my expectations were a lot lower. Sure, I hoped weâd beat CSU and I thought we matched up pretty well against them. But I wasnât willfully blind to us being underdogs. A run would have been fun, but I wasnât expecting it and I wasnât emotionally invested in it. Plus, Iâve now had a couple days to bounce back.
Iâm sad for the guys, but Iâm excited to watch some hoops.
One thing I love about Izzoâs teams is regardless of how their season has went, they go into March playing with an edge. They play defense, always seems like their guys are ready to shoot from anywhere, and very confident.
Now watch as I say this theyâll blow the early lead and lose by double digits.
I have Michigan State upsetting UNC.
Feel like they matchup well with the Heels.
I do too lol. UNC is good but very unimpressive for a one seed. Clearly a step below the top 3.
OK, youâre just trolling me nowâŠ
Cue 7-0 Bulldogs run
Iâm having this phantom need to slack off work now. Like I legit canât focus even though I dont even know whose playing the early games (didnât look like the best lineup, tbh)
Man BYU looks horrible. This is why I always worry about teams who live and die by the 3 like they do, if the shots arenât falling from the perimeter youâve got nothing to fall back on.
Weâve got Purim and March Madness opening round colliding on the same weekend. How could anyone focus on work.
LOL this one isnât hard to explain⊠NCAAT>NIT even if you lose in the 1st round (def underestimated the impact of a blowout in the platoff game on my headspace though).
Season wouldâve been over if we made the NIT as I wouldnât have cared in the slightest how we performed. NCAAT at least gave us a chance to make a run, however improbable.
I will say this - I had a pretty âjust happy to be hereâ mindset with this team since just making the tourney felt like an accomplishment, but the blowout in the play-in is absolute worst case scenario as far as making it goes. Didnât factor that into my calculus.
Now the team canât hurt me anymore
I think we should petition to play all of our nationally relevant games in South Korea. No one will know itâs happening.
(PS did you all realize that MLB has played two regular season games already while the rest of the league is in Spring Training?)
I felt the same as you before the game actually happened. I just didnât see that level of embarrassing blowout coming against such a mediocre team when have no pressure on us.
Exactly. I couldnât understand not wanting to make the tourney because this team wouldnât have anything to lose and should, theoretically, play free and loose.
Boy were we wrong⊠also I forgot to account for the play-in being a standalone game, with America watching.
Back to the thread topicâŠ
BYU was a trendy pick to make it to the Sweet 16. Down 10.
Lebron apparently gifted the Duquesne kids sneakers.
