Hoo is heading to game? Looks like most UVA fans in 102-105? UConn fans surely driving prices up—they’ve doubled in price since after our game ended. Gonna hit Founding Fathers in Center City then head the Broad St line.

For those heading to game and looking for food recs:

Kalaya (Fishtown) – Unreal Thai food with big, bold flavors—one of the best meals you’ll have in Philly.

Friday Saturday Sunday (Rittenhouse) – classy neighborhood spot blocks off Rittenhouse Square. Elite cocktails.

Royal Izakaya (Queen Village) – Awesome sushi in a really cool, lively bar vibe.

Zahav (Old City) – A Philly classic that totally lives up to the hype.

Bok Bar (South Philly) – Best rooftop in the city—perfect spot if the weather’s nice, and it shares the same roofdeck as Irwin’s.

Irwin’s (South Philly) – Great food in a super unique old-school building, located on the same roofdeck as Bok Bar.

Little Fish (Queen Village) – Tiny, cozy BYO with amazing seafood and a menu that changes all the time.

Someone already mentioned this (don’t remember who), but I watched some Tennessee highlights, and they play like a good Miami…or, better. I hadn’t watched them, and it was striking how similar their styles are.

Speaking of Miami, they sure did get a good draw; Missouri is terrible, and shouldn’t have even been in the tournament. The version of Wright State we played yesterday would have beat Missouri…easily.

Outside of jakobi, who do they have? Ament seems roller coaster ish and the rest of the guys are just big.

Ament is hurt. He sat out a game (I think Vanderbilt) before the SEC tournament, and was pulled yesterday; he played 18 minutes, 0 points. I don’t know how he’ll be tomorrow, but definitely not 100%

Pretty surprised by the line. We matchup well - only concerns are Gillespie going off and them cleaning up on the offensive glass - and Ament is “nowhere close” to 100% according to my Tennessee friend. He didn’t even score against Miami.

This had been a really fun team to watch all season long, except for the half dozen times every game that De Ridder, Tillis, etc have the ball swiped away when driving across the lane. This team has far exceeded my expectations, but I think of Dave’s low-IQ quip about the team every time that happens. Will we ever learn…

Might be as simple as they looked great and we didn’t yesterday. They moved ahead of us in Kenpom yesterday and even before were only a few spots behind. This was always gonna be a couple point spread. I personally feel pretty good.

Not reading into that too much, but maybe Vegas is. Miami Ohio is butt cheeks and only beat SMU because they were allowed to get whatever looks they wanted and Edwards was hurt

I’m going to be in the woods, quite possibly without cell service from Sunday until sometime Thursday, so I apologize in advance for denying all of you my sage thoughts and wisdom on the Tennessee outcome. I might not know the score until Thursday unless I have a sliver of cell service.

I know you’re heartbroken, but if I am without the ability to communicate, I’ll try to make up for it when I return.

Time to give the Volunteers a reminder of what it was like at the Alamo.

This game worries me a lot more than the last one—which I predicted we’d win by a couple dozen. Not sure what that portends. Make of that what you will and take the following with a healthy dose of salt

The biggest thing about Tennessee is: they’re big. Against Miami OH, they dominated inside. After Gillespie’s 29, they’re next best scorers were Estrella (6’ 11”, 240) and Okpara (6’ 11”, 242). They’re also one of the few teams that rebounds better than us on both ends.

However, with Ament hurt, the scoring load does fall heavily on Gillespie. He and Ament have been the leading scorers in the vast majority of their games. If Ament does have a high ankle sprain, that doesn’t just make the ankle sore, but very weak (voice of experience). Maybe he can pull a Willis Reed, though I think Reed only scored four.
Our guards will need to come up big on defense against Gillespie and our bigs will have to man up against their interior size.

On the defensive side, they are 4th best in the country at defending the three point line, holding opponents to 28.7%. We are going to have to work hard and move the ball to get and make open looks. We’re going strength against strength here. Need to impose our will.
I predict the Hoos have gotten the tournament jitters out of the way and come out focused and impose their will. Hoos win 79-67.

Isn’t this where we get your patented “we have no chance?”

My concern in regards to Nate Ament isn’t so much that he makes a difference, he has his nights but is an inefficient volume scorer for the most part. What he does do however is draw fouls, lots of them. And he’ll be guarded by De Ridder, so could be problematic.
