New summer recruiting thread

Inevitable that Cal would see Gertrude because HC’s point guard is gonna be seen by everyone. Tahaad Pettiford.

I didnt want Cal to see Elijah haha

Has UVa had a coach present at each of Powers’ games so far during the live periods?

Yeah Vandross has been there for all three this week

I’d say he probably has a pretty good idea he is a wanted man by UVa. Then again, I think Iowa and Notre Dame have been present for a lot of his games too.

@DFresh11 correction. Tahaad was playing. So Calipari was there for both Tahaad and Justin Edwards. And that’s it hopefully.

Tahaad is of course like 5-10 but can dunk easily. Fun to watch and very dynamic but he is gonna be a handful for wherever he goes

Co-sign if you’re under 6" and you can dunk in traffic that is impressive.

I think he also just brought it up all in his right hand. My goodness man

In the FWIW department, the moderator of the Gonzaga 247Sports site just posted that he expects Blake Buchanan to end up at Virginia. I have no idea if this is an informed post, or if he is trying some sort of reverse mojo kind of thing. It is interesting, though.

Edit to add: In another post, he noted that while the Gonzaga staff liked Buchanan, it was his impression that losing this recruitment wasn’t that worrying for them. Given the fact that they are loaded with post players, and are pursuing others, this might be a solid take.

If we want Austin, we can improve our odds by making JWill Hamilton’s successor at FSU.

Manasquan is right on the Jersey Shore. Their HS girls team goes to the state finals literally every year. How do I know this? No clue

I’d actually be a little disappointed if Austin goes to Virginia. I expect him to follow his dad and I really hope JWill gets his own program in the next year or 2. Of course, he could get his own program because Tony left and JWill is named the replacement (I think we could get someone with head coaching experience though). So the son follows the dad, but now we don’t have a top 5 college coach anymore.

Gertrude just makes so much sense for that hypothetical 2nd guard spot in the 2023 class.

In 2023-2024 our veteran ball handlers will only be Reece and Isaac McKneely (unless Armaan comes back for a fifth year). We have Dunn Taine and Bond at the wing spot; yeah none of them are proven but if not one of them has shown something to be the one in 2023-2024 there is a bigger problem at hand. On top of Tony liking 3 point guard/combo guards on the floor.

And the 2024 class is loaded with wings. Just off the top of my head: Isaiah Abraham, Khani Rooths, Jaden Mustaf, Drake Powell, Rakease Passmore, Drew McKenna, AJ Swinton, Caleb Daniels, Sir Mohammed. Dont need to actually know who these names are. Just the point that there are so many wing options, and all of these names above are literally only from DMV and North Carolina (and I excluded the other known names of likely one and dones/already know we wont get them).
