For me, it’s close between the two. Based on my extensive (a few minutes each) film breakdown, I prefer Gertrude because it looks like he’s the better, more explosive athlete, and has some of that wiggle to get to the hole. But Kaiser seems bigger and stronger, and I think in-state is nice to have.
Basically, I think Kaiser Sr. has noticed something about his son and what type of athlete tends to succeed in the ACC. I’m not sure he’s right that the Big Ten is better…
Has Gertrude had an especially bigger summer? Basically, is there any particular reason that we’ve just started to pick up our recruitment and that the recruiting services all rank him relatively low?
@HoozGotNext and others will know better than me. But I think happened at the last AAU live period where he really went off. When I realised he was in my son’s HS and I am friends with the coach etc I “got involved”. Great kid
I think Bossi said he expects Gertrude to rise more in the next rankings (right after the last update came out). He was “phenomenal” the last few weekends (HGN’s words not mine)
It was one year ago Tony was checking out #123 ranked Cam Whitmore at DMV live.
I’m just a dumb fan but I watched Gertrude’s streams (shout out Nike for the free streams). He’s really good but not a pg
Yeah rankings are a lagging indicator, they follow the coaches lead. They end up a pretty good reflection of where coaches valued recruits, but not until the post-July update when it’s all over.
In spring, coaches recruit players they were already aware of. There’s less time, their schedules are scripted, so there’s very little discovery. By summer, they go in to see the guys who scouts have told them about based on spring. So coaches are a little behind, and rankings are way behind.
I really hope Southwest VA Community College doesn’t get Rechsteiner. Just something about his wrasslin’ ties and that hillbilly fan base tells me it’s be a bad mix. Great for them, bad for the rest of the ACC.
On Gertrude, I think how UVA identified him earlier than most is actually because of TJ Power. While watching him in HS, Vandross took notice of his teammate 2024 guard Kayvaun Mulready who happens to play on Gertrude’s AAU team…so while watching him in April, Gertrude jumped out. It’s a whole Kevin Bacon thing.
