Yeah, people seem to forget or overlook the fact we couldn’t practice the week before that game. I think we make the sweet sixteen if we didn’t get hit with the Covid pause.

He was comparing a recruit that may very well sign with UVA to a player that played at UVA, both of whom were possibly elite offensively, but problematic in other areas. In doing so he referenced one of the UVA players worst games on the biggest of stages.
It’s not exactly an irrelevant point for discussion. And be thankful it’s out here on the pleb board and not the holy grounds of VIP. Some of you take yourselves way, way too seriously.

I appreciate a discussion comparing MM to Hauser, gives me some context on MM. Just didn’t see the need for the covid tangent, which tells me nothing about MM.

Being able to land somebody that can shoot it as well as MM would be massive for our offense. I do think he more than Power would make getting a defensive minded 4/5 hybrid a more pressing need, either in this class or through the transfer portal.

It’s interesting to note that little to no concern has been placed on Traudt for potentially not great defense.

I think the potential of a MM/Traudt pairing in the frontcourt is what constitutes the need for a 4/5 hybrid. The offensive potential is off the charts but we’re gonna need somebody who can come in and help on rotations if those two are having trouble. It’s what we were missing defensively in 2021 with the Hauser/Huff duo.

I mean, when we first started recruiting him, I think a couple of us definitely wondered aloud about his defensive fit. I’ve also noted on here that his high school team played a bunch of zone, which wasn’t great prep for our system, so that could slow him down a little. So there’s been discussion of it, but I think folks (including myself) are pretty positive on his athleticism and drive and think he should get to being at least a solid defender, if not a pretty good one.
But that’s also part of the conversation surrounding these new recruits - it’s how they fit alongside a guy like Traudt. I probably won’t expect Traudt to be the level of defensive player Mamadi was, so we’d probably want somebody at the 3/4 who can be a great or at least plus defender to pair with him. Hopefully we’ve already got some of that in Dunn and Bond, but it still informs how we evaluate guys like Momcilovic and Power.
For myself, I like Power purely because his foot speed and change of direction seem a lot faster, so I think he’d be a better defensive player, while still providing plenty of shooting. I don’t think he’d necessarily be amazing, but think he has better defensive potential. But I certainly won’t be upset if we get an elite shooter like Momcilovic.

(Tbh - the Ohio game is much more relevant to how we will do next year)
