Reece!! will toy with guys by then. Imagine
Don’t worry… I already do.
I know ha
Imagine a back court of Reece, Isaac, Dilione and Gertrude???!!!??
Wings of Murray, Dunn, Bond,
Bigs of Sheds, Traudt, and Buchanan???
like a pro team. or atleast GLeauge
And Power/Momcilovic in the front court. Would imagine if ‘23 was a 4 man class that only 2 would likely break into the rotation as 1st years. Think Buchanan would be brought along slowly(likely redshirts). With that being said, what a deep team that would be. Would feel like we’re getting into that Villanova type roster construction.
Given the returning players for the 2024 season, I suspect that any immediate playing time for the '23 recruits is purely speculative. First, it’s an unknown if Caffaro will return, but if he does… Second, hopefully, Shedrick, Traudt, Murray, Franklin, and Beekman will be back. Then, to that core, you should be able to add McKneely, Bond, and Dunn. While nothing is assured, I suspect a seven man rotation is reasonably certain from this group. Possibly an eight man rotation. That isn’t going to leave many minutes for the class of '23 recruits. I imagine one is going to find it difficult to earn PT. For two to do it seems improbable, at best. And, while a lot hinges on Dunn’s development (and where he will play), if there is playing time to be had by a first yearman, I believe it would be the primary ball handler in the class who is, as yet, unknown. Just my thoughts, though.
Edit to add: If Caffaro elects not to return, it wouldn’t shock me if Coach Bennett looks to the Transfer Portal to find an experienced big body as a backup.
There will be an open starting spot at the 4 for 2023-24 with Gardner and BVP moving on. Coming in and competing with a sophomore who played limited minutes, which seems likely for Traudt, is about as good of an opportunity as these kids are going to find at the high major level. Agree there isn’t as clear of a path for those off ball guards we are targeting.
About as good of a review as one can hope for. But - as he is a DMV kid - he will not come to uva
Reads like a very smart thoughtful young man
You saying Papi hasn’t fully committed to returning to CVille? You sure on that? It’s pretty late in the game to be wavering, don’t you think?
For 2023-2024 he meant. Papi has the COVID year possibility
Of course—he goes to Sidwell!
(I say with bias as I worked and coached at Sidwell in mid-to-late '90s.)
you related to Mister? hahahah.
Thanks H&T! Makes sense now. My badd.
I will say this, Coach Singletary does NOT have anything against UVA at all. So it’s never personal with him as a Coach of young men.
While I don’t disagree with any of what you say, I will reiterate that another unknown will be Dunn’s development. Among other things, I believe he is bit older than his classmates as he did a year of post graduate work after finishing Long Island Lutheran in 2021. He’s entering school at 6’7" and 190 lbs, for whatever published measurements might be worth. Depending upon a variety of unknowns, he could well be Traudt’s backup in another 16 months. Also, I imagine a lot of the available playing time in the front court will depend on Caffaro’s decision, and, should he leave, if the staff looks to the portal for experienced help there. Aside from a primary ball handler, I don’t see many opportunities for early significant playing time for the true frosh in the 2023 class.
Edit to add: And, just to remind folks, having limited playing time available for unproven first yearmen isn’t necessarily a bad thing!
Not to get ahead of ourselves since we dont even have a 2023 commit but our 2025 class is going to be Austin Williford and Isaiah Wilkins’ brother, right?
I think we are talking past each other a bit. I am taking about pitching recruits on PT. Seems you are talking about how it will actually work out. From a recruiting pitch standpoint, we have a wide open starting PF spot for the 2023-24 season. Plus first big off the bench backup minutes. The competition for both those roles haven’t played a minute of college ball as we speak in summer 2022. That’s as wide open of an opportunity to come in and compete for immediate minutes as you are ever going to be able to sell at a non-OAD P5 school.
Now hopefully the 2022’s are as good as we hope and eat up most of those minutes and in reality our 2023 ‘4’ doesn’t have to play right away. Would be a good problem to have. I just wouldn’t count on it until we see them on the college court. Definitely would be telling recruits that spot will be open for them to come in and compete for significant playing time.
